Hello,

My Asus F3J was running Vista, but I decided to JUST use Mac OS X. I sttached an external USB and booted off the Mac OS X install DVD. I formatted the drive and proceeded to install on to it. I'm not 100% certain which options I should check for customized. Since my machine has Core 2 Duo, I thought I need to check the Intel install option. Not sure about other drivers, as there seems to be two places to install drivers for ATI cards (this machiner has a X1600 if I recall).

The install to the USB went smooth. I removed the DVD and booted. My USB booted fine into Mac OS X--a true joy.

I did some searching here and on google and came across possible drivers for this machine...

http://diabolik1605.com/DHF/iATi.html

And the Natit_Uni_1.0.pkg driver.

Not sure which one to use.

I decided that I'd rather boot off my internal HD, so I formatted the drive while booted from Mac OS X on external USB. I restarted with DVD and installed to internal HD. That went smooth. After I restarted, the machine wouldn't boot. So my big question is, can you boot of JUST Mac OS X on the internal HD? I playd with the bios to get the internal HD to boot first. No go. Booting off USB is fine though.

Thanks,

Hi there,

I just got FC3j couple of days ago and decided to install os x. Yes, you can install it on

internal drive and I'll tell you how.

I got my FC3 without OS so I repartitioned disk into after XP install like this.

1st: 60 GB NTFS for XP

2nd: 50 GB FAT32 for os x

3rd: 1 GB FAT32 for sharing between OS x and XP

Of course, If you don't plan to use VIsta, wipe off the whole disk.

I downloaded Jas 10.4.8 with 10.4.9 combo update from Demonoid.

During installation, run disk utility at the screen where you choose install

disk destination. Pick your partition in the left pane, chose Mac OS X journaled and click erase.

Quit disk utility and proceed. You HAVE to install Intel SSE2/3 option else OS won't boot.

Remove additional langunages and printer drivers if you don't need them. Don't install any drivers and thats it.

Once you boot into OS X, install network card drivers from http://www.necnet.de/krass.man/Installers/...0Installer.html

I have Nvidia go7300 and it works with Diabolik's 4.9 Nvidia installer. I'm not sure about ATi, search the forum.

Sound works only with Azalia (ALC861) but only speakers. Don't waste your time with AppleHDA because it

doesn't work. Power management doesn't work for me either (despite what http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph.../Portables#F3Jc

says and despite the fact that during installation, my battery charge status is shown)

Combo update to 4.9 makes my CD T2250 run at 2.6 GHz! so watch for that. You can lower CPU speed

at boot with fsb=XXX (where XXX is native FSB speed for your CPU, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel...bile_processors )

Btw, after every driver install, repair permissions because you'll end up with "Please restart..." message.

To repair permissions, click on Finder -> Applications -> Utilitities -> Disk utility , choose your osx disk and click

repair permissions.

Thats it.

Great to know someone else with my machine is doing this.

I got Mac OS X to install in the internal drive. Sweet.

Your machine as Nvidia? I thought this model only came with ATI X1600?

Anyways, If my machine has X1600, should I be trying to install Unified ATI/Nvidia driver I've seen links for here? I did now twice and both times Mac OS X boots but gets to a certain point and places a message that the system needs to be restarted.

Well, there are tons of F3J models (mine being F3Jc)

About the graphic card drivers...

I had to edit kexts with my device id so drivers could work properly and

I guess you will have to do the same. Search forum on how to do this

since it's lenghty process to explain and very simple thing to do

And don't forget to repair permissions! :>

You are right. I was a bit absent minded the day I wrote that. It wasn't the correct link.

I've corrected that post.

You can now check it:http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph.../Portables#F3Jc

The correct download is: http://www.nedprod.com/Niall_stuff/MacOS%2...nagement.tar.gz

Usually the Nvidia Geforce 7300 Go works out of the box, with Natit or Titan, on JaS 10.4.8 or higher.
