I have been thinking about doing an upgrade from my Jas 10.4.8 system, but I had to really mess around (laptop) after I got the base 10.4.8 to boot, wireless, video and audio, on board ethernet all sorts of kexts replaced and/or edited.

Is there an update method that won't hose up everything I've done, or I am looking at a repeat of tracking down all the stuff I used previously and doing again?

Sorry to hijack the thread...

I really recommend to update. 10.4.9 is so cool.

If you have an Intel Processor, look for the Kernel that

supports SpeedStep, Increases battery life in a great way.

The system run very good with 10.4.9.

Sometimes, when updating to 10.4.9, you will loose USB and DMG support.

To fix this, just backup system.kext in Extensions folder with

the process found below

If you don't want to mess with your extensions, backup them.

To do that, copy the kext you want to backup from /System/Library/Extensions to a folder

UPDATE

Return the files from the folder to /System/Library/Extensions

OPEN TERMINAL, write this

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions
sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions
sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS

reboot.

Cross fingers.
