here's my setup...

gigabyte ga-965p-ds3

core2duo e6400

2gb patriot extreme performance

geforce 7100gs 128mb pci-e

10.4.8 updated to 10.4.9 (jas)

about half the time i boot up, the OS will hang at the gray apple screen and a circle with a slash across it appears at the top of the apple. the other half of the time, it'll boot up perfectly and everything's fine.

what's causing this? is there a solution?

try booting with the verbose "-v" option and see where it stops when you try to boot. try and post a picture of the frozen screen if you can.
