mtin
so maybe I'm just searching into the wrong direction, so I thought I'll just ask you guys I've got the 8F1099 dvd, converted it to .iso (checked the md5), applied the ppf patch from maxxuss site and burned it to a DVD. Then I made A new Partition, got 2 Big NTFS Partitions for windows and stuff and one 10gig Partition where OSX should go...so I thought I just format that 10gb one with FAT32... Put the install dvd in, booted it up, but couldn select an install-location....so I went into the Disk Utility and tried to format that Partition to HFS+, but all Partitions of my HD where unmounted (greyed out in list) and I couldn't mount them so I couldn't format them too!! so how can I get that Partition into HFS or something so that I can select it from the installer menu? Hagar
use whatever tool you partitioned with & delete the fat32 partition. create a new primary partition, give it type af & leave it unformatted. with any luck it will show up in the installer, remember to erase it before you try to install, & be careful, do not delete the wrong thing.. good luck.. pc_guru
Follow the instructions that Hagar gave you. You can to create the partition in Win XP using diskpart (is a tool inside of Win XP). mtin
sorry, couldn't reply earlyer... tried what you told me (and a few other things) but it doesn't work, if I format it with "create parition primary id=af" in diskpart then it seems like it creates it, and Norton Partition Magic also shows me that the Partition exists with "Type AF" but in the Disk Utility it is not listed on the left and if I press Partition then it is listed as "Free Space" All my other Partitions are greyed out on the left...and are not mountable! tried FAT and FAT32 again, but it's the same problem, they are simply not mountable!!!!! a side note: what does this "Active" mean? cause right now my Windows partition is "Active" and all others aren't, do I have to set the osx86 Partition active? Downloading MacDrive atm....maybe it'll work with that... mtin
ok, macdrive didn't work...it can only partition the whole HD so all my Data would be lost... again, I'll try to explain my Problem, now with pics I Format a Partition with the Windows Explorer as FAT32, here is how it looks in Norton Partition Magic: then I boot with my 8f1099 OSX and no HD shows up in the installer... so I go into the disk utility...that looks like this: you can see the first aid check in that screen too - can't find anything. You see that all partitions are greyed out, they are not mounted. If I press mount on any partition, it works for a while but then gives me some error message...if I try to format one of the partitions then the progress-bar says "mounting volume" for a while and then it looks like it's done but nothing changed... here is the info screen on the Partition where osx86 should go on: maybe you can understand me better now! (and I hope you can see something in the pics^^) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5218-how-to-format-partition-hfs/#findComment-34365 Share on other sites

This must to be AF type, but when you get the Disk Utility, you need to format it, because this new partition although is AF type (HFS+) isn't formatted, so you need to do it in osx86 install, only chose that new partition there, and follow these instructions posted in the attached images. mtin
ok, thanks for your detailed help! I think I already tried that at the beginning, but I'll do it again..just ran through diskpart and checked if it is really type af with norton partition magic, does everything look fine till now? I'll boot from the cd in a few hours or maybe tomorrow! sorry that I always take my time to reply but I'm pretty busy with my school stuff at the moment, I'll try to reply as fast as I can Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5218-how-to-format-partition-hfs/#findComment-34639 Share on other sites
pc_guru
That looks ok, you'll install in 10 GB AF partition, i guess it. Remember to format this new partition as i told you in my previous post. Be really carefull when you select that partition in osx86 install. Good luck !!. mtin
YEAH!!! You can't believe how happy I got when I saw that the formating in Disk Utility REALLY WORKED!!! then the partition also went mounted.... I thought, FINALLY I can install it went back to the install Window and BAMM! I saw this: now, please, just tell me you know what that is and how I can fix it could it be that it's not bootable because it's the last partition? I mean, I've got a 190 gig HD: 1. primary Partition: Windows System, 90gig 2. primary Partition: Linux Swap Partition(left over from my Linux installation) 500mb 3. Extended(90gig): -> 4. logical partition: Windows Files, 80gig -> 5. logical partition: Windows Backup, 10gig 6. primary Partition: supposed to be osx86...10gig do you think it would change anything if I would put the osx partition as the second one (after Windows System but befor the logical partitions)? EDIT: you can see my partition table on the right of this screen, too (if my explaination above is not clear enough): Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5218-how-to-format-partition-hfs/#findComment-34653 Share on other sites
pc_guru
Try to format it (as i told you) and after, reboot (quit) your DVD. After put your DVD again in your bay. Remember than you'll need to select DVD/CD booting as first device in your BIOS Setup. mtin
did that, didn't help...formattet it 3 times in a row with Mac os Extended (Journaled) but didn't help...then tried the other options like not journaled or case sensitive but that didn't work too... have you got any other suggestions? should I move the osx partition in front of the logical windows partitions? I'm not pretty sure, i listened once that someone said that osx86 don't boot if it's placed far away in 32 GB boundary. I have very few partitions in my Master HD, maybe would be a good idea try to place AF partition not so far, maybe as 3rd partition, but this not necessarily will guarantee that this work. Good luck. mtin
YEAH!!! thx, it really worked, the osx Partition is now my second partition after a 96GB Windows one...installed very nice from the dvd, everything working fine sound is working fine, my cd/dvd bruner is recognized as original apple product, printers all ok... graphics QE/CI is not supportet, and I've also only got 1024x768...(ATI9800Pro)....and of course my wlan card isn't working too I found something on the forums for Prism 1/2 wlan cards, but don't really know wich card I got, how can I find out?(I know that I've got a prism card) and what could I do about my graphics? oh and one bigger problem: mac os x can't shutdown on my computer, it always gets stuck forever turning that wheel....I always have to press the restart button on my pc case... that problem already occured while booting from the installation dvd! maybe anyone got some problems like this too.... And I heard (or read) that 8f1111 has got much better graphic card support, and that it would support my card, but it also seems to be slower/crashing ppc apps! What is your advice? should I try to update my 8f1099? Oh and btw, how can I update my 8f1099 to 8f1111 (SSE2, no NX, PAE)? thats about all for now Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5218-how-to-format-partition-hfs/#findComment-35478 Share on other sites

About of update, i'm not proper person to advise it, because i don't want to update until that final version be released. About of your nic, you can to check what card you have in Win XP, only right-click over "My PC" icon, clik over "Properties" option, and there click over "Hardware" tab, next look for "Device Manager" or similar sentence (i can't tell you exactly, because my Win XP version ins't in english), there you'll see all your devices, look for your nic and check what card you have. mtin
yeah, already thought about that, but ther in the "Geräte Manager" (german ) it just says "PRISM 802.11g Wireless Adapter", nothing about a version anywhere...if I press Propertys and look into the driver tab it says Driver version 2.1.14.2...could that mean it's version 2? If so, then that .kext in that other Thread is supposed to work, but I don't know how to install it! where should I copy the kext to? what to do then? should the wlan card then be recognized automatically as airport or what else? oh and no clue about my boot problem? I don't know about of your nic, some nic aren't accepted by osx86, mine by example, but you can try to buy a cheap nic accepted in osx86, only 5 u.s. $. You also can try to get a valid kext, but i believe that it's harder than to buy another nic. Anyway, good luck.
