blotsome
I have a MSI K9VGM-V with onBoard Chrome9 graphics. I'm running JaS 10.4.8 with a AMD 64 X2. When I put in a DVD (movie, not ROM), the default DVD program fails to load, giving the cannot find valid video device error. I've read that this is crashing because CI/QE are not supported and that a work around is to just get VLC to play DVDs. Are there any other issues with not having CI/QE enabled? I want to know what else is broken because I don't have CI/QE (or if there will be any benefit in trying to fix them). Assuming it is worth fixing, is there any driver out there that could work with my current setup? If not, could someone recommend a cheap PCI-E graphics card that will work with CI/QE. I do not intend to do any gaming, nor any fancy 3D rendering. 2D all the way with some movie playback. It seems like ATI is the way to go because NVIDIA has driver issues (unless they have been fixed, the posts I were reading were from 2006)? Thanks for your help. hackintom
Don't worry about nvidia, it's not a problem anymore. You can choose almost any nvidia GPU based card. There is drivers now. Check the hardware compatibility list, and the wiki about "titan". Its $45, but you can flash the firmware to 6600 and overclock it to near 6600 GT speeds. I guess not bad considering its $45.
