TheBlueStylus
I've been using Windows since it's 3.1 days, I've done what research I could (getting really confusing) while studying for finals, lol. OSX for pcs just got my interest. I am a total newb at this. I have 3 computers I'd like to install OSX on, perhaps dual boot with XP or Vista, with OSX. From what I can tell anything from about 1-3 years will run well, but I have a custom computer that goes beyond that, and another that might be borderline of that generalization of hardware compatibility. Here are the computers: Gateway CX210X Processor: Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T5200 (1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache) Memory: 1024MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2-512MB modules) Hard Drive: 80GB 5400rpm Serial ATA hard drive Display: 14.0" WXGA TFT Active Matrix (1280 x 768 max. resolution) w/ Gateway Executive Stylus w/ Continuous Sensing Technology Optical Drive: Multiwrite DVD Writer (Optiarc) Wireless Network: Integrated Intel® 3945 802.11a/b/g wireless networking Graphics: ATI x1400 64MB (up to 256 MB hypermemory) 945PM Chipset Battery: Primary 8-Cell Lithium Ion battery Expansion Slots: One type II PC card slot External Ports: (3) USB 2.0, VGA, IEEE 1394 (FireWire) Keyboard and Mouse: Full-Size Keyboard and EZ Pad® Pointing Device Media Card Reader: 7-in-1 media card reader (Memory Stick®, MemoryStick Pro®, MultiMediaCard™, Secure Digital™, xD-Picture Card, Mini Secure Digital®, RS-Multimedia Card™) Modem: Integrated V.92 56K modem Network: Integrated Intel® 10/100/1000 Ethernet Adapter HP Pavillion zv5380us CPU: 2.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3400+ 1MB L2 Cache Memory: 1024MB DDR SDRAM (2 x 512MB) at 333MHz Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 4 440 Go 64MB DDR Hard Drive: 80GB (4200RPM) Hard Drive Multimedia Drive: DVD+R/RW and CD-RW Combo Drive Display: 15.4 inch WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800) Display Fax/Modem: High speed 56KB modem Network Card: Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector) Wireless Connectivity: 54g 802.11b/g WLAN with 125HSM/SpeedBooster support (not sure about the brand think its Broadcom) Sound 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio; internal Harman/Kardon speakers; AC audio link; volume control button and mute button Keyboard 101-key compatible Pointing Device Touch Pad with On/Off button and dedicated vertical Scroll Up/Down pad PC Card Slots One Type I/II 32-bit card bus (also supports 16-bit) External Ports Three Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 One Parallel SPP/ECP standard interface One headphone-out One microphone-in One VGA (15-pin) One TV-Out (S-video) One RJ-11 (modem) One RJ -45 (LAN) One IEEE 1394 (FireWire) One notebook expansion port Custom PC CPU: P4 Northwood 2.2 Ghz Memory: 512 MB DDR 2700+ (forgot the brand of memory) Graphics: ATI 9800 Radeon Pro HDD: Multiple IDE ATA HDD all 7200 rpm MOBO: Soyo P4S-Dragon Ultra (I think that's what it is, I'll double check it later) <http://www.soyo.com/products/proddesc.php?t=d&id=6> Audio: CMI-Audio integrated into the modo As far as I can tell from what research I've done the CX210X will work, I'm not sure about the other two, which are pretty old by computer standards. I'm also aware that the tablet functionality will not work (yet I think) for the CX210X. Also if someone can, what version of OSX would be good to use? I'm assuming that 4.9 would be the best because it's the latest. Thanks again Edit: One last question, is there some tutorial that shows how to patch an OSX disc? I might have access to one, and would rather work with one I made myself, instead of getting a prepatched iso. Thanks Edit2 : I did a lot more digging throught the wiki, and I'm pretty sure both laptops will support OSX, just not sure if all the hardware will. For the HP, I read two things about resolution, one person only go a max of 1024x768, while someone else got 1200x800. Also what is qe, I read someting about Quark Express, is that something like Directx in Windows? If qe doesn't work, will that take out a lot of functionality? Thanks for any help.
