thelorax
Since on-board sound doesn't work properly for me, I found this cheap USB sound card..and it was only $29 AUD from my local {censored} Smith Electronics Store. It's detected as a Cmedia USB headset and works fine. It mentions "5.1 Channel sound effects" on the web site, but it only seems to have a stero output and a mic output...I'm not sure what this means...maybe just 3D sound emulated through stereo *shrugs*. The only problem I've had is buzzing from the speakers when my computer is turned off and loading up, but this can be "fixed" by turning the speakers off when I shutdown. Oh, it also has a irritating blue LED that flashes when sound is playing, so it's really only suitable for back USB ports. Despite the flaws, it's more than adequate for my needs. http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefro.../product/XH6314 (Australia) I can't find it listed on the DSE NZ web site, but it still might be at the stores.
