How to Install Leopard via External HD

It quite simple:

1. Create a partition using Disk Utility on external hdd with GUID Partition Table (on intel macs)

2. Restore Leopard dmg to this partition

3. Restart your mac. Hold Option Key, choose the External HDD.

 

That's all. I've been using this method to install few versions of Leopard.

I cannot get this to work. I have a Powerbook G4. I restored Leopard to a partition on my external USB drive, and it shows up when i hold down Option while rebooting. However it just remains stuck at the grey apple screen. It's driving me nuts.

Ok you will want to use Disk Utility.app and "Restore" from "Source: leopard_client_9a410.dmg" for example to the "Destination: into the small partition of your External HDD".

 

Go to System Preference/Startup Disk and select the small partition of your External HDD then click restart to boot.
