Quad-Core OS X Editing Station

Well, I ended up dropping a lot of Overclocking equipment in favor of a Quad Core that's going to see a mild OC to 3.0 or 3.2ghz on Stock peripherals. Will add cooling to the case when it comes time, but that's probably it. Horray.

what made you choose that gigabyte motherboard over the intel d975bx(2) or the asus p5w deluxe? I too am looking to build a rig for final cut pro (using core 2 duo now, quad later). do you think that your gigabyte will have comparable compatibility?

Price. Core 2 Quad. And speculation that the 1333mhz FSB Rev3.3 version will run a Yorkfield processor without having to upgrade motherboards.

There's another member here running Final Cut Studio on a Gigabyte DQ6 flawlessly. And the overall success of running on a DS3 drove me to purchase this mobo instead. If everything works, there's no need to purchase such an expensive server board IMO.

My idea was save the money, spend time getting it all to work right, and apply the savings to space for editing. I'll be getting an eSata external Raid array very soon.

I'm running 10.4.9 on a DQ6 with a QX6700 Quad Core chip. I built this primarily for editing with Final Cut Studio. I've edited 2 lengthy clips and created two DVDs with DVDSP and am extremely satisfied. Very fast and so far, very stable.

Thanks for the great report, Moose. I am hoping the DS3 gets just as great results. I am looking into the DQ6 since my Bank and NewEgg had a fight over verification and now I have to wait til friday to order again. =(
