Hi,

I have 10.4.3 8f099 + maxxuss patch running nativly on a P4 Prescott, 1gb ram, Asus P4P800E-Delux. Everything works well.

I have a GF6600GT which is only coming up in Vesa 3.0 mode (as expected).

Aparently Radeon 9600's work under the above, but in AU they are between $150 and $170, which is a little to much to spend as a temporary measure (until the Nvidia drives mature). The 9250's are around $50 but they don't really give all the features of OSX so it seams a little pointless buying one. There is also the 9550 which retails around $70-$80 depending on where you look. Has anyone had any luck getting native support working under 8f099 (or even 8f1111)?

Many thanks

Dave

As far as I know the only cards from the 9000 series that are working at 100% are 9600 and up. Are you looking at a 9600 or 9600XT the plain 9600's are cheaper. Here in Canada I can get a 9600 for $90 CDN or $105 AU. Try looking on Ebay you might find a good deal. Here is a link from a Canadian site for a 9600

Thanks technobob. I'm not very up with the ATI series (bit of an NVidia fanboy myself).

Someone else posted on the HCL that a 9550 was really a 9700 with some features disabled.

I've been scouting the local computer shops for a good deal on a 9600 so thanks for the advice, i'll keep looking.

technobob, thanks for your reply, i wasn't quick enough to win this one, but it closed at $130, and the guy wanted $20 shipping. For that price I should just get one in a shop.

Thanks for your help. I'll pick up a 9600 soon i hope, and i'll try with build 8f1099 and 8f1111

bob,

On my setup the 9550 works well.

See http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?sh...ic=5053&hl=9550 for more details.

Basically i added its PCI ID to the ATIRadeon9700.kext file and recache my kext list and it just worked a dream.

As with other 96/9800 owners, some smearing under the mouse is aparent. It looks liek the ATI driver is not enabling the hardware cursor on the card.

Still with an xbench of 82 and OpenGL reporting well over 100 fps, its good enough for me.
