Hi, I'm a satisfied Linux user but desperate to give OS X a fair trial. After some difficulty I installed Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2] on my pc with an AMD 64 2800+ (sse2, no sse3). I was able to get it chainloaded from grub on another hard drive with chain0. Great, it finally boots! But at best it gets as far as a friendly welcome video. The video plays, then just as it says something like "Mac OS 10.4 Tiger X Getting Started" the screen turns blue, then grey, and the video starts over again. Frustrating.

I'm really not sure where to begin. Video problem? Kernel issue? All suggestions welcome.

EDIT: Ah, I booted with -v -x (verbose safe mode, right?) and got a brand new message to work from. It doesn't play the video, it just goes between a blue screen and a console with the message: /System/Library/CoreServices/Loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started
