I've wanted to know, for quite some time, what "hacking Mac OS X" really means. Obviously, we have elite hackers who "hack" i386-based versions of Mac OS X, which run on that architecture. But, what exactly are these hackers doing to the Mac OS X installations that make it possible to install them, on non-Apple hardware. And, when I ask this question, I'm not looking for an answer like, "they remove hardware checks." I'm truly looking for an in-depth answer, because I want to be a part of all this hype. I'm a really good programmer (PHP, Cocoa/Obj-C), and I'd love to help the community out and get involved in projects like this. So, please, explain to me how it all works. Thanks in advance! elmar01 Posted April 7, 2007 Share Posted April 7, 2007 I think it was a leaked Apple Developer DVD that was built to run on specific x86-based machines, and the hacking part was writing drivers for the most common processors (AMD, Intel) so a wider range of hardware could run on it.
