Hey, Ive had some luck instead of using 10.4.8 JaS im using a 10.4.4 patched by JaS and it is really slow it runs alright but takes ages to do anything why is this?

My laptop specs are:

AMD Athlon XP Mobile 3000+

768mb RAM

80GB 5200rpm Seagate HDD

Geforce 4 go

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Kurt

does OSX86 run as smoothly as a real mac?

It depends entirely on your set up. If you are still running .4 I'd upgrade to .8 first -use paulicat's apple update + new kernel/smbios method. If it remians slow, start running some benchies to find out why; is it your HD access, cpu usage etc etc. Have you got QE/CI enabled? Saying it's slow is completely useless, there are plenty of people willing to help -none of them are psychic. It's as if I posted -my car won't start, what's wrong? You need to post more info....

To begin with there are known issues with nVidia mobo chipsets, did you look into that already?

Your SSE2 laptop=slow, really slow coupled with 768MB Ram and a 5400RPM drive. SSE2 was only added to OSX86 just to make older processors work, but it doesn't run at "full speed", almost like emulation for SSE3.

Mac OS X = native SSE3, full speed.

Running OS X on any SSE2 processor will never match the performance of any Mac rig that is Intel SSE3 based. So your lappie will never match the performance offered by a MacBook with real Intel Core2 Duo with SSE3.

But be happy, at least it works. Thank the people who helped you and get a real Mac or an SSE3 laptop.

Ok. I'm having exactly the same problem

My laptop specs are:

nForce3 Chipset

AMD64 3400+

512MB RAM (yes i know it's low...but read further)

7200RPM external usb drive

5400RPM internal drive

so... installation works slow like hell, both 10.4.6 and 10.4.8 releases (installation takes 10 hours). Deadmoo and 10.4.4 (keyboard didn't work) was like 15 times faster, so it's not SSE2 problem.

I have just the same problem in a AMD system (see specifications below): very slow installation with Jas 10.4.6 and 10.4.8, no laptop keyboard & mouse detected (but external wireless usb keyb & mouse yes). after long hours of installation, either it is put into sleep mode before ending the installation or it ends with 100% CPU usage all the time. Once installation, the reboot is equaly slow and 100% cpu usage again.

Under VMWare, both releases work just fine. (I installed them trough VMware into a fixed independent disk partition). because VMWare offer only a limited set of virtualized devices, maybe the problem is either the AMD chipset or some of the hardware devices.

I installed also the 10.4.1. The installation was quite fast, but this was the only difference. The CPU is still at 100% and no keyb/mouse detection from installation on, but there is no sleep problem in this case.

I found AppleTPMACPI.kext in system/library/extensions. I removed it but still 100% CPU

I will try to delete more kexts, like PCCardbus.kext and so on, although I have no hint about what makes the CPU to stay at 100%

Question: Does still apply this problem related with the slow installation of 10.3 versions?: http://www.faq-mac.com/mt/archives/006794.php (sorry, spanish)

Anyone of you know any benchmark or diagnostic that can give me information abut what makes the CPU to stay at 100%?. I know that it is a kernel/extension problem because I looked at the performance monitor: the graphic box is in red and no process is using CPU....
