Hi you guys, Ive been reading these forums for a little while now getting information on how to install OSx86 on a PC.

I recently tried to install it on VMWare before I went and messed up my computer so that it would not even boot into WinXP (as Ive read on other threads).

I followed the setup guide for OSx86 on VMWare located here: Click Here

The virtual machine is setup as a FreeBSD and I made the correct edits that the guide said to make to the .vmx file. Also, I am using the mounted image of the patched .iso from Dameon Tools

I got OSx86 to install onto the drive (from what I can tell). It did say that it was installing everything from the disc including drivers and other applications.

My problem is this: When I boot up without the -v startup option it just sits on the gray screen with the apple and spinning circle. It sat there for over 9 hours straight doing the same thing (I let it sit over night to see if it was just taking a very long time).

When I boot up with the -v option it looks as though it is all going to load fine, then it gets stuck and it just keeps repeating this:

Apr 5 14:53:31 macintosh-000000000000 /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started

The virtual drive is a 15 gig drive mapped to my external hard drive.

My system specs are as follows:

System: Dell Inspiron 6000 currently booting Windows XP Prof.

Main HD: 80gb

Externtal HD: 400gb

RAM: 1.5gb

Processor: Intel Pentium M 1.6 GHz

Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon X300

Any information on this problem and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. If you need anymore information from me, feel free to let me know and I will post back as soon as I can.

Thanks in advance

Matt

yes, mine is a dell notebook. I finally manged to get it to work correctly though.

I deleted that Virtual machine and created another, included a new virtual hard disk, went through the steps again, only installed the actualy OS files and the patch (which I think the first time I installed too many of the patches which made it not work correctly). I did not install any of the drivers or extra programs or anything. After this, it worked fine. I havent gotten internet or anything to work yet on it, but it is bootable.

Im not sure what the problem was.

I would try created a new virtual machine and maybe not installing all of the files. If you are positive you have the right patches selected for your processor attempt that. If you are not positive that you have the correct patches for your processor, figure out which patches you need and only install with those.

Hope this helps you get your VM running.

Matt
