Erkokite
I am planning on building an ultra compact mac. I used to have a real mac, but it was lost at an airport. I'm too poor to afford a new intel mac, but I miss OS X. Anyways, my parts are as follows: Intel D945GBOLKR micro-BTX motherboard (GMA 950, 945G, ICH7 DH, Sigmatel 9220 audio, gigabit ethernet) 80 gb WD SATA hard drive Intel Celeron D 331 2.66 GHz CPU 1 GB dual channel Kingston DDR 667 CL5 I'm buiding the case myself out of old plexiglass. Any glaring issues? Any thoughts on which kernel I should use? I was going to use the latest Semthex and 10.4.8. Issues with SATA? Should I buy lower latency, lower frequency ram? I was also considering OC'ing from 2.66 GHz to 3.33 by bumping up the bus to 667 MHz from 533. Think that would be stable and cool enough? Is it worth it? Please discuss. Danyel
Hi Erkokite: Your motherboard looks good (GMA 950, 945G, Sigmatel 9220, Gigabyte Ethernet). You should be good to go with that motherboard and chipset. I bought a similar system last year (MSI mPC 915 -- ultra compact, great OSx86 compatibility). http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec....5&class=npc If you want to add Wireless capability, I recommend getting the NetGear WG311T PCI Wireless Card. It runs Atheros Chipset and recognized as Airport without any modifications. http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adapters/S...ers/WG311T.aspx Please let us know how it works out for you! --danyel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47528-gonna-build-me-an-ultra-compact-hackintosh/#findComment-340675 Share on other sites
