hi, i am new to this and need help booting into mac os x. i installed osx86 onto my USB hard drive successfully (i watched the progress bar) and then rebooted the computer, like it asked. however, when reboot, my computer always boots into vista. i tried unplugging my SATA cable for my internal hard drive (not my USB one), but then i get a message saying something along the lines of "no boot device found". i have changed my bios and have set booting from a usb as the top priority but it just doesn't boot from it. i also tried going into the boot menu and selecting boot from usb, but it says "no device found" also, before i installed it, i went into disk utility and formatted my USb hard disk as MAC OS (journaled). the following are the specs of my computer

Dell Dimension 9150

2.99ghz

1gb ram

ati radeon x600 series

intel pentium 4 (HT)

32-bit

Windows Vista Ultimate

my usb hard disk has a total of 110gb and is formatted in HFS+

How did you install it and which version?

the .iso i used is labelled "Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1]"

i installed it by

1. burning the .iso to dvd

2.booting computer with DVD in drive

3. at the welcome screen, i went into utilities at the top of the screen and then disk utility

4. i then selected my USB hard drive and then went into the tab "erase" and then formatted it as Mac os (journaled). (when i checked in windows, it came up as hfs+)

5. after it had formatted, i went to the installer that had origonally booted up and then clicked comtinue and kept going until it finished

6. then i watched the progress bar as it went along, it took about 22 minutes and when it was doen i rebooted my computer, just like it asked and when i rebooted it refused to go into mac and would only boot from my hard drive.

i had gone to the bios and set it to boot from usb devices and also at top priority

witch the usb legacy option, in bios

sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do i do this?

Probably under Advanced BIOS Options, enable "Legacy USB Support". It should be close to a few of the other USB options like support USB keyboard, etc etc.

i actually have that already enabled. also, a few weeks agoi booted dos from a usb stick.

i realised that for some reason, if i try to boot from the USB hard disk it doesn't work at all, but if i try to boot from it with the install disc in, it seems to go one step further and i see a grey screen with a dark grey apple logo. after a few seconds a star comes under the logo and starts to spin. this happens for a few seconds but after this, the screen goes black and i am not sure what this means

do you think that if i installed Defiant's Disk Utility it would work?
