stilldescending
Hi all. Just wanted to share an experience about a problem I solved. If you want the short version, skip to the bottom. When I first started foolding with OSx86, I had to find the patches and that jazz to get it to run on my machine, but then it installed with no problem, only without sound. Then one day, it stopped working and gave me an error about something couldn't load and was going to switch to single-user mode. I couldn't figure out what I had done. I did everything from rearranging the order of my drives on the cables to formatting my drive, but nothing. Then I realized that I'd updated my by BIOS! I went to my MoBo manufacturer (ECS) and reflashed the older BIOS and IT WORKED! To fix my sound, I removed my PCI sound card and restarted, and that worked, too. Apparently it just being there was keeping OS X from recognizing my built-in AC97 sound. The Point/The short version: If you're getting a similar error on install, when it goes to the blue screen and the beach ball starts spinning but then cuts to a black screen saying something unexpectedly quit and is going to single-user mode, it could have something to do with your BIOS. No, I don't remember exactly what the error said, and I'm not going to reproduce it. If you still have no sound and have a PCI sound card, remove it. Some people have had success with the PCI card in Windows and the AC97 card in OSX. Not me. NOTE: If you flash something retarded onto your BIOS and ruin your entire system, don't blame me.
