I know, this has been asked about over 1000 times, but none of the stuff I've read has helped at all. I'm trying to install using a DVD which I burned the ISO on to. When I get to the step to select the destination, my harddrive doesn't show up, and when I go into the disc utility, only my DVD drive shows up.

Here's what I'm using;

JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3 (on DVD)

Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop

AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Technology MK-36

1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm

ATI RADEON® Xpress1150 256MB HyperMemory™ (Integrated)

120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem

8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability

Integrated Audio

Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps)

If someone could help me out, or direct me somewhere that would help, that'd be awesome. Thanks.

Well, I don't know for sure. I don't personally own this chipset. However, before I gave my answer I did a search throughout the forum and saw no reports of this working along with many comments of people saying that the only method was VMware.

However, if you were able to install and have your hard drive recognized, it would be great if you could share how you did it with the community. From what I saw there are numerous people that do not know how to fix this issue.

What machine are you using? The computer in your signature does not use an xpress1150 chipset.

I was simply answering a post based on information I've found on the forum.

I know, but as far as it goes for the hard drive, SATA is SATA i think, and that's why i think it should work, but the partition table has to be correct.

There's no manufactur mentioned in the signature, maybe it would be a good idea to ask for that B)

I'm sorry, but you have some faulty assumptions.

SATA is not a generic feature that will always work if the proper kexts are in place. SATA is a channel of communication between the motherboard and the hard drive. Therefore, there needs to be a controller for that channel of communication. In this case, his motherboard uses an Xpress1150 controller which needs its own individualized support just as most other pieces of hardware do. Because of this need for controller support, we have patches for installers, some of which have been incorporated into the latest DVDs. One instance is from Bikedude880 who is working on nForce4 SATA support as well as ICH7/8. If SATA were SATA there would not be all these members working to support specific chipsets. If you were to have checked on the forum you would most definitely see that not all controllers are created equal. Your assumption is equivalent to saying that there is no reason for Natit because graphics are graphics and if it works for one it should work for all.

Secondly, to quote from your signature, "Mobile Intel 945GM Express || Works." Last I checked Intel is a manufacturer and 945GM Express is a chipset. Therefore, since ATI and Intel are two different companies using two different chipsets, I would venture to say that your experiences would not have bearing in this particular situation.

I was told it might work if I used Ultimate Boot Disc to create a FreeBSD partition, and set it as active. I have Ultimate Boot Disc, and looked through a bunch of the partitioning utilities on it, but couldn't figure out how to make a FreeBSD partition, my choices were only Windows, DOS, Linux Swap, Other, etc. Could anyone explain how to do it, or which utility to use?

Thanks for clearing me up then :(

Still learning, so every bit of info is usefull :(

Bodom - To create a FreeBSD partition you might be able to use Paragon Disk Manager. I *think* it handles those but I'm not completely sure. You are welcome to try this, and I hope it works, but I doubt that it will. If your SATA controller was properly recognized it should show a drive, regardless of if it likes what is on it. However, maybe this is a work around on some glitch I'm not aware of. Good luck.

Deamobile - Thats ok, we're all learning.
