umm
Hi I've sucessfully install OSX 10.4.8 on my compaq laptop, but now I can't boot into windows any more. I press F8 and select the XP partition. but it said Windows could not start because the below file is missing or corrupt: C:\Winnt\System32\Ntoskrnl.exe what do i have to do to be able to boot into windows? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46089-cannot-boot-xp-after-install-osx/ Share on other sites
WaldMeister
If you os x partition is created before the windows partition, you'll have to edit the boot.ini This is because the windows partition number has changed. If it was partition 1 before installing os x, then you should change it to partition 2. umm
The windows partition is created first, then I use partition magic to resize the disk (at the beginning of the disk) then install OSX there. If I delete the OSX partition and resize the windows partition back to it's orginal size (full) then I can boot into windows. how can I fix this? lord_muad_dib
lol, it's not a smart way to screw up the partition table.. install osx after windows, or instal acronis or grub Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46089-cannot-boot-xp-after-install-osx/#findComment-330605 Share on other sites
WaldMeister
If you resize the partition, and allocate the space at the beginning of the drive, you should use my method mentioned above. WaldMeister
Or using Hiren's Boot Cd, it contains a dos app to edit the boot.ini And if you can boot into os x, you can edit it from there, unless you win partition is ntfs. vaughn00
You should boot from WinXP CD then choose 'R' for repair at console. Choose 1 to logon the Windows if the installer can find your WinXP installation If not at the C:\ prompt (where obviously no directory can't be listed' type: fixmbr and after that type fixboot, disregard the warning. reboot your computer and everything is sweet now....
