This is a native install, with a new/clean drive, 500gb western digital.

My setup:

Asus P5W-DH DELUXE

C2D E6400

NVIDIA 7900GS PCI-E

My Install Disc:

Jas 10.4.8 w/sse2/sse3/intel/amd v1p

My Steps:

1. boot from dvd

2. used disc utility to partition/format drive, single partitios, hfs journaled

3. chose JaS intel package, nvidia support package, ..

4. install finished successfully, said it was rebooting computer in 30 secs.

5 when machine reboots, it stays at black screen with blinking cursor...thats it.

Ive tried:

-rebooting the machine several times.

-power cycling.

-defaulting the bios.

-reinstalling osx, which gives the same result.

Alot of people seem to be having this same problem, either showing the plist not found error , or just black screen with blinking cursor like me.

Any ideas?

Heres some additional info i noticed strange in the Logs during installation...

-----------------

error while updating booter for /dev/disc0s2

partition map not MBR

cant set active boot partition as /dev/disk0s2

is this related? is that why the screen stays at a blinking cursor?? how can i fix this.??

disk utility does not create a valid MBR for your hackintosh mobo.

Boot off a windows CD. Press R for Recovery mode, format the entire drive NTFS, type FIXMBR, reboot with os x dvd, reformat that partition (not the whole hard drive) to HFS+, make it an active directory using fdisk (search the forums for the commands). Install reboot into your new OS.

thank you tussey, this is one of the best explanations ive read so far.

i will try this and post back.

someone also mentioned(not sure if true) that the 10.4.8 DiskUtility is causing the problem, that if i partition/format with lets say 10.4.6 utility, then boot 10.4.8 dvd and install it will work. anyone tried this?

Actually I did sub the 10.4.3 disk utility for the 10.4.6 to get 10.4.6 to boot.

Your DVD was not patched with Defiant ppf (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=38125). either you can patch it and reinstall or just use an older version to do the partition job.
