Guest BuildSmart
The truth behind the kernel source release is extremely questionable, I've waited more than 6 months on semthex to release his kernel source as he promised to do so I could build an SSE2 capable kernel in a more compliant environment however it doesn't look like he was telling the truth because the source is still not available and he offers no response or explanation or even a projected release date. I thought the whole point about development and advancement in the x86 community was geared towards sharing so that others could work on development and resolving issues but it appears that those who are involved in this community aren't the sharing kind and the community suffers because of it. On the otherhand we have JaS who has done some decent work in creating ISO's but you can't even get a list of the tools he uses to generate the ISO or even provide them and turning down the offer for the OSInstall.pmproj file used to generate the OSInstall.mpkg so he wouldn't have to manually edit the file by hand anymore made no sense but it's his decission. Waiting on semthex to do as he stated seems to be a pointless act since it appears that he has absolutely no intentions of releasing it so if anyone has the SSE3 emulator source for the 10.4.8 kernel I'd be interested in obtaining it so I can put together another kernel option. Suggesting that I join semthex in the kernel development is a bad idea since it appears he's threatened by me for whatever reason and just seeing me join the kernel IRC channel to check progress he just bans me so working collaboratively isn't an option. mifki
I agree with the SSE2 part, it would be great to have sse2 code openly available, or even with a license so people dont steal works and rename it to their own. Guest BuildSmart
I agree with the SSE2 part, it would be great to have sse2 code openly available, or even with a license so people dont steal works and rename it to their own.A license for code that is used to make software work on hardware that is against the softwares license agreement, an interesting concept. If I manage to obtain it you can be sure I'll be using it and it would accompany the full source release, none of this stripped down/ripped out source release, let the next person have a real chance at improvement by giving him everything. The bigger picture here is that advancement and development are being hindered by semthex because he doesn't offer a complete package in his source code that allows anyone to continue wher he is and has been stuck for so long. At this time, why would anyone want to help him since he's more interested in obtaining donations rather than project advancement, he's so tight-assed about his SSE2 code that no one really want to work on a kernel becuase certain peices of code like that one can't be obtained and making a kernel to support generic SSE2 hardware isn't possible becuase you can't get the code for it. The R3D3 issue is another one worth mentioning, this author is bent out of shape that his binary was being distributed as part of an update for those who wanted to update to the latest OS. The DaemonES kernel is more stable than the semthex kernel and I've used his source for some experimenting and custom kernel building with great success and have no issues crediting him for his work although I haven't released anything publicly at the moment and if I use his code I would obtain his permission to release it. This may change in the near future if I can manage to obtian the source again with his permission and obtain some tidbits since the path of the semthex kernel has become nothing but unstable as the multitude of posts show otherwise I'll just be developing for personal educational and experimental purposes. I'd like to support as much hardware variations as humanly possible but with this attitude of greed and the publicly released kernel sources being stripted of code to support the hardware, making anything and releasing it publicly seems to be a distant thought. Guest
SSE2 sources are not coming out. Period. Especially to a moron like you, BuildSmart. For anyone mildly competent with assembler and kernel code, it would be trivial to extract the emulator from the built kernel and re-integrate it into semthex's latest released sources. And no, I won't elaborate on this either.
