I've tried lotta things, and I searched the boards for some answers, but I'm still getting no audio input in my System Prefs. I am running 10.4.7 but then right now on my other box im installing 10.4.8, since someone says that it works out of the box. Anyways if that doesnt work im gonna go back to 10.4.7 and im gonna need help with the drivers. thanks :thumbsup_anim:

*edit* One more thing, how come my .pkg files when I open them it always locks up and I have to force quit it, also my firefox seems to load very slow.

Your not alone my friend, i have tried just about everypatch i can find for the AC97 and no dice, i am running the PM8PM-V (VIA® P4M800 Pro) board and everything is working fine but i just can't get the sound ac97 working. even tried searching for some kind of patch to make my sound blaster audigy work.

azazel1292003 i have the same board and my sound works out of the box with JaS 10.4.8.

Seriously it is not that hard to search. For best results use the Google search.

To find the above entry I searched for "ac97 stereo site:http://forum.insanelymac.com" on Google.

Copy and paste the new file to /System/Library/Extensions/. Choose authenticate in the dialog and enter your password. Replace the file.

Then open Terminal and type:

sudo -s

(enter your password)

cd /System/Library/

rm Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache

(no problem if one or both files don't exist)

cd Extensions

chown -R root:wheel *.kext

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

(exit terminal)

Applications > Disk Utility > select your volume and repair permissions

Quit and reboot.

******EDIT********i decided to see what was on my mobo cd in the sound folder and i found the following folders all with installers. i used the onboard once when i first built this box but have no idea what packages were installed as the cd does it automaticlly

the folders are Adi C-Media Realtek Sigmatel and VIA. Should i try one or all of these patches ?

Thank you Gossamer, i have done this and now i have the following in the sound preferences

under choose device for output i have line out AC97 Audio (PCM) and SPDIF out AC97 Audio (SPDIF) under the sound effects tab i have choose an alert sound and lots of options there then it says play alerts and sound effects through and has the following options inthe pull down menu Line out or SPDIF out.

in the Audio MIDI setup the following settings

Default Input AC97 Audio (PCM)

Defualt Output AC97 Audio (PCM)

System Output Ac97 Audio (PCM)

Properties for pull down menu has 3 options, AC97 Audio (PCM), AC97 Audio (PCM), AC97 Audio (SPDIF) the second pcm is checked by default.

Audio output is set to master stream (can't change) Source Line Out ( no other options in pull down menu) Format 48000.0hz 2 channel 16bit. 3 volume bars, the first is all the way to the left and can't move it and the other 2 are all the way to right but movable. I have tried many different speakers/headphones but still no sound. here is my full system specs maybe there is something i am still doing wrong?

Mobo PM8PM-V (VIA® P4M800 Pro) 3.20 Ghz Celeron R (D) LGA775 2 Gig Kingston

ATI Radeon 9550 256mb AGP . One Sata 120gig WD with windows xp pro and WD 80gig ATA running Jas 10.4.8 version. I don't use dual boot rather i use the F8 option at bios screen to choose what drive i want to boot into. It really does run like a dream i just need my sound to work, i also have a Sound Blaster Audigy 24bit PCI card but it's not regconized by osx. Maybe i installed a wrong package when installing Jas? i will reinstall if anyone has any idea's of what package's i should install under the common hardware options.

Thanks for all the help already givin and anymore that i may recieve.
