I think that your windows boot.ini file is pointing to the wrong partition. From memory I had a similar problem and the resolution was simple, edit the boot ini to point to the correct partition on which windows is installed.

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

You may need to change the rdisk or partition numbers, but can't remember how I worked out what was correct (maybe using a linux livecd)

  • 3 weeks later...

could be same as mine tho.

i can get into windows again

but if you select OSX from the boot.ini menu it comes up with that above error as well.

Selecting the usual Windows XP Pro option lets you back into Windows.

I tried Wingrub too.

Wingrub or making the OSX86 partition the Active one:

Get a flashing underscore cursor and nothing else.

Just changing boot.ini and using chain0: Boot up and when the boot.ini menu comes up, select "OSX86" and it just reloads that menu each time. Select Windows XP Pro again to go into Windows.

To get back a broken XP if someone cannot get back in (If you changed your active partition).. either get a bootdisk or bootcd and run FDISK then set the partition again to the Windows XP one.

I'm in the same boat as Waluak, any solutions?
