AMDtje
Hi all, Before you start saying, there is a nOOb again who doesn't use the search function ..... I did search the entire forum and I got half a solution to my problem. As I said before I cannot get into Mac OS X because it cannot load the right driver for my video card. When searching on this forum I came across this topic: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...l=1950&st=0X1950XT driver I have the exact same video card as jccool. I need to install that driver but my question to you is, how can I install that driver without being able to login to Mac OS X? That installer runs in the operating system but I can't login. Can I install *.PKG files using the terminal? Is there a way to boot up (I already tried the safe boot) so that I can login and install that driver? If it cannot be done this way, I don't see any option left. I can boot with the DVD, (I got a good image though) and then use the terminal. But I don't which files to edit. I have searched through google an editor I can use in the terminal. I came up with pico. Anyway can someone give me a hand with this? It would be much appreciated. So the solution I need, is to login and install the driver from jccool. P.S. I already sent an pm to jccool, but didn't have any answer yet. AMDtje
Hi, Thanks for responding. And No is the answer to your question. I can't boot in -x mode. I think this is the safe boot mode right? Anyway I will try this when I get home. I'm at work sitting on a G5 Mac Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45136-system-hangs-on-blue-screen/#findComment-322517 Share on other sites

Anyway I will try this when I get home. I'm at work sitting on a G5 Mac well then if your on a mac now, download the installer, then open it up: rightclick and show package contents open the contents folder. now double click on the archive.pax.gz and it should unarchive archive.pax and you should end up with a folder called archhive now navigate thru all its folders and then grab a usb drive or something and save all those kext to the usb drive or what ever you got. now boot into your dvd and use terminal to move/copy all the kexts to your extensions folder. then do the required chmod and chown of the kexts you installed then a permissions repair. quit terminal. exit installer then try and boot into your osx install. -DiaboliK Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45136-system-hangs-on-blue-screen/#findComment-322523 Share on other sites
AMDtje
Hi DiaboliK, Thanks for replying again. well then if your on a mac now, download the installer, then open it up: rightclick and show package contentsopen the contents folder. now double click on the archive.pax.gz and it should unarchive archive.pax and you should end up with a folder called archhive now navigate thru all its folders and then grab a usb drive or something and save all those kext to the usb drive or what ever you got. I followed this solution until I got to the point when I have to unarchive archive.pax.gz. When I do that I only get one file called archive.pax and I can't browse through it ..... And I also cannot unarchive that again .... Sorry but I am a total mac nOOB .... What am I doing wrong? I got an maxtor USB drive? Will it be visible when I boot up with the DVD? Greetings Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45136-system-hangs-on-blue-screen/#findComment-322528 Share on other sites
DiaboliK
it should unarchive the archive.pax by itself if your using the BOMArchiveHelper built into mac. and yest he usb drive should be visible when dvd boot, just check disk utility. jccool
Hi, I just replied to your pm but if you see this first, try it, I think maybe you installed osx WITH the dvd's ati drivers. OSX will NEVER boot with these installed. A video driver is running i suspect,it is dvd installed x1000 drivers, with these you cant boot into safe mode, boot with -s kernel flag (sum) Now you need to mount your volume, I think you type mount / -uw (if that dont work find out how to mount) then to remove the dvd's ati files type these 3 commands sudo rm /system/library/extensions/Natit.kext sudo rm /system/library/extensions/ATINDRV.kext sudo rm /system/library/extensions/atix1000.kext after running all 3 of these, reboot and run jccool installer v3 ( hope it works) Jccool Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45136-system-hangs-on-blue-screen/#findComment-323091 Share on other sites

AMDtje
Hello all, Finally I got this thing working and I can now login to MAC OS X. I took me 4 days to accomplish it *pfff*. But I am glad it worked. It really is a b*tch to install a driver on MAC OS X. Sorry but I love DOS more ;-) I tried to follow the answers here but still it was not easy. Francis Ba --> You got to manually install the driver! You need to boot up in single user mode, (after you press F8, then add -s) then login as root (sudo -s or su root) and start copying those files. You need to unpack the driver in Windows or better on a real mac. Put them on a NTFS of FAT32 partition. Mount this partition in the terminal when you are booted up in single user mode. Then use the commands cp -R to copy the files to their location. --> rm -R to remove files and directory's Don't forget the chmod and chown commands!!!!! Have a try, it's worth it because I want to proof MAC OS X x86 runs better on a PC then on a real MAC! Cheers P.S. Thanks for everything and for replying and thanks again to jccool for his wonderful driver! jansan
Hi! I realize that this may be already solved on other threads, but for those of you who have nvidia cards (mine GF6200), don't want to look around too long :-), and have the blue screen issue -> try deleting the AGPgart.kext (natit wiki says so in some cases) - don't forget to delete extensions.mkext and extensions.kextcache. This worked wonderful for me. Good luck PS: i used the Jas 10.4.8 PPF1 + PPF2 install DVD Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45136-system-hangs-on-blue-screen/#findComment-346817 Share on other sites
