So far my second experiance with osx86 has been fairly pleasant. I started with deadmoo when it was first released, and believe it or not all my hardware excluding wifi and video accel worked out of the box. I didn't stick with it long enough for tweaks.

I'm running an Asus z70v whitebook, with hardware as follows:

Pentium M 1.6GHz pin-modded to 2.13GHz (not an issue)

Intel 915 chipset

ATI X600 wsxga+ native at 1680x1050

Intel ICH6 HD audio

Intel PRO 2915ABG wifi

Marvell Gig Ethernet

I recently installed JaS 10.4.8 sse2 sse3 and the install went very smooth. I can boot promptly into safemode, and even use it without any lack in performance. The problem here is the sound and what appears to be the video. I'm not finished researching the sound yet, but the main problem is the video which seems to be the real pain.

When I normally boot up I get the apple logo, and progress indicator. I get to the point of seeing the mouse (which I have complete control of) and when it's done loading all the graphics and such - they're just scrambled all artifact-like.

In safemode my accel works just fine (I think.. is there something like glxgears for osx to check?) I can even set my resolution to the native 1680x1050 without any performance loss.

I've tried every conceivable install configuration from the dvd and everytime it leads to the same jumbled video normal mode. As far as errors go - I'm not aware of any that are relevant to this topic, but I can post my dmesg if needed.

Also any hints on sound is a plus!

I also should mention my ethernet isn't recognized, but for now I'm working on one problem at a time.

By temporarily deleting the Callisto kexts I was able to boot into normal mode just fine. That narrows things down alot, but probably isn't anything new to you guys.

While in safe mode (with callisto) I can successfully set my display to 1680x1050x32 60hz, yet when I specify that on the boot prompt the screen is screwed. I'm thinking in normal mode it's basically doing the same thing..?
