tracerbullet
Hey guys, having problems with OSX in which I try to do things with sudo and it asks me for an administrator password. I never was asked during install to set an admin password, and I'm stuck! Is there a default password that it's installed with? Help! Thanks. moseschrist
use your own password. in most cases your user is the system administrator therefor you can use your own password. I do not get a login screen when booting into OSX, could this be part of the problem? moseschrist
there is a password. the only reason your account automaticly logs in is because it is the only account configured. the password u need to use is the one u configured when u created your account. it is the password u use when u install software which comes with installers (.pkg files) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44704-root-password/#findComment-320238 Share on other sites

macgirl
there is a password.the only reason your account automaticly logs in is because it is the only account configured. Well not exactly, the auto login is for the first account you created when you installed Mac OS, but even if you have only one account you can enable or disable the Auto Login feature, see the pic: root account is disabled by default, if you didn't enable you can use you user password but only if you have admin privileges. Of course accounts can have empty passwords, in that case whe it ask for your passwrod just hit return/enter or click on the OK button. Also, automatic logins does not ask for passwords, but that doesn't mean you don't have one.
