shanedownes
I first partitioned and formatted my harddrive with a 10.4.7 dvd, then installed using the 10.4.8 dvd. Installation went successful but when I started it up the gray apple appears and so does the spinning circle below it. Then the circle freezes and shortly after harddrive activity stops. The first step to troubleshoot this would be to start up in verbose or safe mode, but when I try the key combos at startup nothing happens. I have a few questions about this though. Since there is no command key on my pc keyboard, how do I start in verbose mode? I have tried the alt/windows/ctrl keys + v and still nothing (this is a ps2 keyboard). I also tried with a usb logitech keyboard that has an apple key, and still nothing. Any help troubleshooting this would be much appreciated. My hardware is listed below: -PCChips p23 socket 775 motherboard -intel celeron D 356 3.33 ghz 512k 533 fsb -pny 512mb PC3200 DDR 400mhz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44528-stuck-at-gray-apple-screen-and-no-startup-keys/ Share on other sites
tracerbullet
I'm having this same issue, and it looks like on my machine it's failing to load the login screen. As for launching in verbos mode, just press F8 when it's switching between DOS and Darwin/x86 launcher and it'll come up with boot options, just type -v and then hit enter, and you should be set. I'll let you know if I find a solution to this issue, just incase you have the same problem. shanedownes
ok, I figured out the reason for me not being able to start in verbose mode. The boot menu key for my motherboard was f8, and you have to hit it at just the right second for it to give me access to the verbose option. Now that I can do that, this is the last line of text where it just hangs there: localhost kextd[25]: kextd_watch_volumes: couldn't set up diskarb sessions Anyone know what this means?
