Hello. This is my first post. I've tried to search here and on google but haven't really had any luck. I've got 10.4.8 up and running on my Dell B120 with wireless working. I've still got to get sound working and I'm trying to get this really annoying problem solved. Basically the problem is that I have to have an external monitor hooked up to initially get stuff to show up on my screen, otherwise I just have a blank blue screen. I've seen the thread on creating a dongle but it just seems to me that there has to be another way. I was booting with the -f NO EXTERNAL MONITOR option for a while and that worked but now that doesn't even work. Is there a way that I can permanately tell OSX that I want it to use the display attached to the laptop? If this has been answered, I apologize in advance. I really don't know exactly what I should be looking for. BTW I originally had copied over the img from from tiger-osx.bz2 (10.4.1) and it worked just fine without having to have an external monitor.

Ok, so I did even more searching and by luck ran across LaptopDisplay.

I was able to get mine working with this. Here is a basic outline of what it took.

First of all I downloaded the latest LaptopDisplay.kext from macvidia.

Then I downloaded the AllLaptop.zip file.

Then I booted into windows and downloaded Phoenix

I ran phoenix.exe and had it find my EDID.

I saved this to a file and then edited the file to match the format specified in the forum posts ie

00112233 4455667788 99001122 etc

I booted back into osx and ran the DisplayUtility from AllLaptop.zip

I copied in the modified EDID from phoenix and hit parse and then generate.

I copied the generated folder to /System/Library/Displays/Overrides and chown -R root:wheel the directory

I then copied the LaptopDisplay.kext to /System/Library/Extensions and chown -R root:wheel LaptopDisplay.kext

I rm'ed Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext

I rebooted and it was fixed :)

Ok, so I must have been really sleepy last night. I wake up this morning and go to get my laptop only to find it STILL PLUGGED UP TO THE EXTERNAL MONITOR!!! ugggh.... So, of course what I did last night didn't have any effect. I'm not saying it won't, just that I may not have everything with LaptopDisplay working properly and haven't had time yet to look. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried looking at the 10.4.8 Hardware Compatibility List on the OSx86 Project's wiki? (http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...0.4.8/Portables) I also have a Dell Inspiron B120 and the day before, I had gotten mine to run 10.4.8 perfectly. In order to NOT use an external monitor, get two staples, bend them to a U shape, and jam one into the VGA port from pin 1 to 6, and the other one from pin 2 to 12. Don't jam it too hard, because you might damage the VGA port (unless you're not going to use it in the future). You should have 10.4.8 working from your laptop display with Quartz Extreme and Core Image fully supported. If you have any questions, let me know.
