cfhuk
Hey. Recently got an iBook for a friend to use at university. it came with a 40gig hdd and tiger on it, but we thought we could do some stuff to it to speed it up a bit, and keep it more or less up to date in the computing world. To do this we got a nice shiny new 80gig hdd and a copy of 10.3. Now, after the long process of installing the 80 gig drive (I'll do a walkthrough one day) we came across a problem installing 10.3. Basically, it won't do it. we tried pressing the various combinations of buttons and stuff like that, but still, the disc would spin in the drive, and nothing would happen, leaving us with a little mac icon in the middle of an otherwise blank screen, saying that the hardware was okay (would have liked to see the happymac logo but the iBook didn't have one :-( ). Is there something i have missed along the way? will it just not do it? is it because of the new hd? I don't know, i'm only good at taking these things apart, and I'm not the biggest software guru in the world. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. consolation
Don't bother with the write up detailed instructions are here. Tiger is 10.4, Panther 10.3. Assuming you; reset the pram, held down c to make it boot form cd and that that didn't work, you might have a) dodgy media dodgy drive c) a damaged ribbon cable. Try booting with another os disk. cfhuk
How do you go about resetting the pram? held c down whilst booting etc and have tried with official discs, I'm trying with 10.3 because it is lighter on a G4 than tiger. I'll have a look inside it to make sure alls okay in the casing and cabling. Cheers for the help.
