retroz
Anyway, I have not updated in a long long time. It seems there is this 35 MB file floating around that combined with Apple Update seems like a 50/50 shot of working. In addition, I just spent three days d/l JaS DVD 10.4.8 from torrent. Would appreciate thread and most safest way to make this work.... I don't want to lose Ethernet, USB or Graphics...(onboard) Intel GMA950, Pentium 4 dual 930, Intel 945GTP motherboard... I use FIREWIRE AUDIO, so do need audio to work..... thanks for the help or link to the correct thread... Like I said, a search under JaS 10.4.8 turned up ZERO hits. Bruce Wang
Hope it helps. 1. Freshly installed JaS 10.4.6/7. 2. Applied JaS 10.4.8 SEE2 Combo Update patch and reboot. 3. Copied AppleACPIPlatform.kext, AppleAPIC.kext, IOACPIFamily.kext and IOAudioFamily.kext to desktop. 4. Applied JaS SSE2 Beta9 patch to 10.4.8 SSE2 working installation. DON'T REBOOT! 5. Before reboot, deleted r2d2, AppleACPIPlatform.kext, AppleAPIC.kext, IOACPIFamily.kext and IOAudioFamily.kext 6. Moved AppleACPIPlatform.kext, AppleAPIC.kext, IOACPIFamily.kext and IOAudioFamily.kext back to Extensions folder 7. Copied Exp6 kernel (ex. mach_kernel.s6) to root and set permission (sudo chown root:wheel mach_kernel.s6 sudo chmod 644 mach_kernel.s6) 8. Repaired disk permissions and prebinding things (update_prebinding -root / -force) 9. Reboot with mach_kernel.s6 (Press F8 at boot and type mach_kernel.s6 at prompt) 10. To boot with new kernel always, in Terminal sudo -s [Password] cp -f /mach_kernel /mach_kernel.old cp -f /mach_kernel.s6 /mach_kernel chown root:wheel /mach_kernel chmod 644 /mach_kernel 10. Reboot normally Bruce Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43993-best-to-way-to-update-to-1048-from-1046-jas-or-other-way/#findComment-314634 Share on other sites

Bruce Wang
The procedures I posted is for SSE2, but I think it should also work on SSE3 system. You will need two patches: JaS 10.4.8 SEE2 Combo Update patch and JaS SSE2 Beta9 patch. The only difference is to replace the kernel with SF9 (SEE3 only) instead of EXP6 (SSE2/SSE3). Anyway, it's only for your reference, sorry for any confusion caused. P.S. 1. For some system, might need to back up LoginWindow.app to prevent crash. 2. eGWen patch is also a good way to update SSE3 system. retroz
Let me translate = = I am still confused....LOL.. This is what I have D 930 dual core. my mother board is Intel On board GMA950 I have two items.... 1) Jas 10.4.8 with v1p and Deviant Disk Utility Patches attached (whatever the last part means) 2) eGWan Patch I am doing everything I can to find out how to do this the safest way. I have backed up all my preference kexts files just in case. The only reason I want .8 is appartenlt as a ADC member (I have the new widget device that will come out on leapord) and Fireworks and Photoshop UB which use 10.4.7 or above and I do not want to trash the systems just for this as I have a lot of audio progs installed. And as mentioned, I did a search for JaS and it came up with NO hits....very weird.
