Two methods:

1. Replace IO80211Family.kext with the one in 10.4.6

2. Edit IO80211Family.kext/ontents/Plugins/AirPortAtheros5424.kext (or AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext depending on the chip)/Contents/Info.plist to include the Vendor-ID and Device_ID of your card.

Repair permissions and reboot.

I tried copying the IO80211Family.kext file over from the 10.4.6, to no avail. The airPort icon appears in the top bar, but I can't configure it. How can one find the vendor_id and devide_id of their card and how do they put it in? Idiot's guide, please. This is unchartered ground for me.

After you've replaced/edited the IO80211Family.kext, delete the AppleAirport2.kext, Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext and restart. If you startup in verbose mode, you'll see the system trying to load the AppleAirport2.kext and failing. When it's not there it'll load the IO80211Family.kext instead, hopefully successfully. That is, if your card has a broadcom chip...

I'm not on my hackintosh right now so I'm going by memory, but you can find the vendor and device id's by booting in windows, opening the properties page for your card in the device manager, and looking in the last tab, I forget what it's called. You can probably work it out from there tho!

Thanks gthlm, I'll try that one out. My card's a Belkin, not a Broadcom, but I have my fingers crossed anyway.

Damn shame having the lastest kernel without the most important fixes included. I love my old 10.4.6 DVD but it's outdated.

Guess I'll just have to wait for Jasser to release a new one on Demonoid..

Well gthlm, after following your advice, I now receive an error telling me AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext was not properly installed. The AirPort icon is now gone from my top bar as well, so that's no good.

Heeelp!!

I followed Bruce Wang's option #2 (use the IO80211 from 10.4.8, and adjust the info.plist) and provided my chip's id. To find the id, I ran the following in Terminal:

ioreg -l | grep pci14e4

Look for the "Name" or "IOName" - and find the second number, that's the other part of the tuple you'll need whilst following his directions.

Rebooted, the card was "not configured", so I went to network prefs, it configured itself and picked up my airport settings from before my upgrade. No worries. Working like a charm.

Good luck.
