Fronobulax
OK, I'm not 100% sure if this is what people want in this forum, but I spent a little time finding all this info and testing various combinations, and I thought I would give back by giving the walkthrough of how to set up this specific board. People from here will notice that many parts were stolen from other forum posts (from people who actually knew what they were talking about). I just wanted to compile it into a comprehensive walkthrough for one motherboard. I had the Gigabyte board based on the HCL listing on this site. The 8I945GZME-RH Has 945GZ chipset with INTEL GMA950 onboard video, ICH7, ALC883 audio, and Marvell Gigabit ethernet. The best selling point is that it's only $70 if you shop a bit, and everything works (for me at least)... Stuff I've tried (random stuff that might be of some value to others). Install GoatSecX 10.4.6 - Ethernet worked after (but not before I installed a reltec card in one of the PCI slots and rebooted, then the system managed to find the internal Marvell chip). Got sound working by following the "fix audio" procedure below. Couldn't get combo upgrade for 10.4.8 to work, so I aborted and tried 10.4.7. I tried the JaS 10.4.7 AMD/Intel repack CD. 10.4.7 installed and ran just as 10.4.6, but neither audio or ethernet worked. Instead of trying to fix them both I decided to go ahead and try the 10.4.8 with V1P and Deviant Disk Utility Patches' (which as of this time is the most recent release I can find). None of the other 10.4.8 versions I tried did very well on this motherboard. My system consists of: Gigabyte 8I945GZME-RH 1 gig DDR2 533 memory Intel 524 P4 processor 300Gig SATA/300 drive PATA Generic DVD Burner. Installation Notes: Install used: 'JaS 10.4.8 w/V1P and Deviant Disk Utility Patches' I prefer to have no windows on my drive whatsoever. So I format the drive straight from the boot disk. I had originally installed via a walkthrough that had me install XP first, but that time I believe I made the OSX boot partition too large (crossed the boundry) and I had to book the machine on the DVD, let the DVD time out then it would boot the hard drive. I didn't spend much time troubleshooting this issue as I planned to reinstall anyway (so I made the Mac boot partition smaller and everything worked great. Installation (Booting the DVD): Boot the DVD by restarting your computer with the DVD in the drive (this will take a while). when you get to the part where you have to pick a target drive to install Mac OSX on you will probably not see any disks to install on. In the menu above the current window choose diskutilty. Partition the drive and format your boot partition with 'MAC OS extended Journal' Close the diskutility and your installer window will come back. You should now see the partition you just created as a target for your install. Select the target On some JaS disks the install package options come up automatically, on others there has been a (I believe it was called customize or maybe options) button on the lower left that allowed me to select optional packages. For options I selected Intel 10.4.8, Intel 950 graphics, and azelia audio. I skip the verification of the installation disk (Thank you MTV... From the short attention span generation)... Now OSX should boot and everyone should be happy. Everything on my motherboard other than network and audio work great right out of the box... Now we fix the audio: 1. Delete AppleHDA.kext: In Terminal, type: sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache 2) Edit AppleAzaliaAudio.kext: In Terminal, type: sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist Search for (use hotkey= ctrl + w): <key>IOHDAudioCodecVendorID</key> change the string to: <string>0x10ec0883</string> Exit pico sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAzaliaController.kext/Contents/Info.plist Search for (use hotkey= ctrl + w): <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> change the string to: <string>0x27d88086 0x284b8086</string> Exit pico 3) Clean up the system: In Terminal, type: sudo diskutil repairpermissions / (NOTE: this didn't work for me the first time so I also did a "sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzalaAudio.kext") sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/ 4) Then, reboot and enjoy sound out of two channels. Now to fix the ethernet: Download skge.kext (you can search for it and download it from a post on this forum). Copy it to your /System/Library/Entensions/ folder In Terminal, type: sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzalaAudio.kex sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzalaAudio.kext kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/ After rebooting the system said it found a new "PCI ethernet slot ethernet device". I went to the network settings and selected the PCI Ethernet Slot ethernet device, to get the device to work I had to tell it to configure manually and select autoselect for speed (then everything popped up and I leased a DHCP address from the network). Outstanding isues: Sleep does not work. My understanding is that it probably will not work. Parallels desktop says that It cannot locate a sound device so it is using the loopback device (still runs fast though)... I have the same Mobo and I have had a hell of a time getting the audio to work right Edited March 5, 2007 by darth.frodo04 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43763-installation-of-1048-on-gigabyte-8i945gzme-rh-only-osx-no-win/#findComment-316829 Share on other sites

I may have to pick one of these up from Newegg- might even build a new box for OSx86!
