Hey all, i have a Dell Inspiron 1300 (b130) and recently got excited about osx86 again, because i noticed it's compatible! (SSE2, Intel)

So someone from my dad's school gave him the 10.4.4/6 install dvd, by maxxuss. (it installs 10.4.4, but it includes a 10.4.6 upgrade patch)

I noticed that my sound wasn't working, ok, looking for Sigmatel 9200 drivers and found the applehda patcher and the needed dump.

Now i wanted to be at the top of osx development, so i got myself a copy of the "JaS.10.4.8.Update.Intel.SSE2.Only.pkg.zip" and updated my machine to 10.4.8, working.

But i checked my kernel version, outdated... so i looked around for a kernel updater, found the script to updating it with semthex's.

I run the script, all seems ok, i reboot and it hangs, giving me a few yellow lines and then trying to find the root device, over and over...

My question, how can i update my kernel? If that isn't possible, what should i do than? (obvious answers would be "get a mac" or "get the 10.4.8 JaS install DVD", give specific answers and hints please)

Thanks in advance,

Steven

afaik that JaS package is out of date - it came out before Mifki and Semthex released their 10.4.8 kernels.

easiest way would be as you say to just grab the latest 10.4.8 JaS disc - it has full 10.4.8 (including new kernel) for SSE2 and SSE3, AMD and Intel machines.

Done, works perfectly. (my resolution is screwed, but i'll figure that out later)

Had the DVD already burned in case someone would bring it up. :)

Thanks alot!

Edit:

Found out i need to replace my new .kexts with older ones from 10.4.5 so my resolution gets fixed.

Formatting my harddrive right now, i usually re-install osx 6 times a day, i'm used to it. :P

The secret to not going nuts: Much coffee, positive thinking and taking a break every so often.

I got my Sigmatel 9200 working and my wireless Ralink 2500 card too.

Two installations i'm going to try:

Installation 1:

10.4.5 to a partition and 10.4.8 to a partition -> move kexts from one partition to another.

Or 10.4.5 -> save kexts to removable media -> format -> 10.4.8 -> replace kexts.

Installation 2:

10.4.5 to harddrive -> update all needed parts of OS (like the kernel) with the 10.4.8 DVD.
