Beerdrinker
Hi, i installed OSX86 (tiger-x86-flat) on my comp but it stops booting with the "still waiting for root device" error. Some infos about my hardware: Mainboard: NEC MS-7168 chipset: ATI Xpress 200 (RS480) Southbridge: ATI SB400 Processor is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ SATA-Controller is a ATI 4379 NVidia GeForce 7300 GS Card 2GB Ram I tried to find some infos at google, but found nothing that helped... Anyone could give me some tips please? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43531-still-waiting-for-root-device-error-help-pls/ Share on other sites
hecker
This is a very common error but with different solutions. I got this error when I connected my DVD and HDD (IDE) in different positions. Also, there seems to be a lot of people having trouble with SATA. Try using IDE instead. Search this forum for more solutions. I come across this all of the time. hecker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43531-still-waiting-for-root-device-error-help-pls/#findComment-311162 Share on other sites
Guest bikedude880
First off, the image you are using id the "Deadmoo" image... 10.4.1... That image was created by making a DMG of a working install. IT'S OLD! Second, get the latest 10.4.8 release and start the install. You will have problems with your motherboard (ATi x200 and SB400), but they might be semi-fixable. Third, keep posting problems here (after doing a search for it, please >.<) and I hope yo get this working! Beerdrinker
Ok i couldn't get it working, so i installed an IDE-drive. I first formatted it as Fat32, than as HFPLUS, installation worked fine. But after rebooting it still says "Still waiting for root device". When pressing a button at the bootscreen it shows the drive as hd(1,1) OSX86HD. hecker
I remember my OSX recognizing some devices even when they were disabled in the BIOS. Strange but true. Try unplugging them and any other non-critical devices as well. Could it be that your drive is connected as slave? hecker Edited February 27, 2007 by hecker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43531-still-waiting-for-root-device-error-help-pls/#findComment-312474 Share on other sites

hecker
Cool. And now that you mention it, I actually read somewhere that problems arise when leaving the HDD in the second IDE port. Congratulations and good luck! hecker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43531-still-waiting-for-root-device-error-help-pls/#findComment-312495 Share on other sites
