sykopomp
I'm wondering what the DVD installer does, to see what I can do to mess with what's already been installed and see if I can get what I have to work. Once the installer reaches the point where it installs the patched-in options (namely the kernel patch and the video card support patch), what does the installer do? Is there a vital post-file copying procedure that the installer has to go through in order to finalize the installation, or can I simply add these files manually and then try to boot (i.e. can I just boot into Linux and manually copy a downloaded kernel into the / folder)? It would probably help a lot for this forum if people knew what the installer was doing, both to figure out what went wrong, and to figure out what can be fixed manually.
