Ozamandiz
First, thanks to all the posters for the valuable information they have provided. Due to their help I was able to get 10.4.1 up and running, and even updated to 10.4.3. Since things went so well I want to start adding more applications, but unfortunately the old disk drive I used to load the system is near capacity. What programs have people used to clone a hard drive? I want to clone the 6 GB "test drive" to something more spacious. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. habitual
i tried various methods, and the only one that I could get to work to put it on a seperate hard drive without any other os on the drive was installing darwin to the hard drive first, then using carbon copy cloner to copy osx86 to the drive. I went from a 40 gig hard drive running windows xp and osx, to a 100gig drive running OSX taking use of the whole 100gigs with 1 partition. working great now. muttonhead
Hi y'all - If you pop both harddrives into the same computer and then boot off the floppy created with: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/bootitng.html you can copy the partition over to the new drive just like 'Ghost'. Note: After the floppy boot, hit 'Esc' at the first (install?) screen to get into maint. mode. Copy the partition, Resize it to fill as much of the drive as you want. Make it bootable (You want MBR rather than EMBR). They want you to install and buy their boot manager SW, but the Maint. mode off the free download is a very nice tool. Wayland
I tried Boot NG, and I couldn't resize the partition for the image, so you have a step by step to follow? I tried for hours all sorts of combinations. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4337-help-cloning-hard-drive/#findComment-28053 Share on other sites
muttonhead
I tried Boot NG, and I couldn't resize the partition for the image, so you have a step by step to follow? I tried for hours all sorts of combinations. My bad. The current version doesn't support resize for partitions other than NTFS and Fat32 The beta I was using (Picked it up last string) did have such a function. I assumed that it made it into the final version this summer or fall. Should still work fine for the copt, just not the resize. My appologoes.
