Hi! I installed OSX on a second hard drive; everything went smoothly during the install. Rebooted and had the computer boot from the second drive. At first I got the "you must restart your system" screen, so I went into BIOS and disabled all USB ports. (of course... My mouse is usb, so that'll be another issue.. but right now I just want the stinkin' thing to boot ;-) )

With USB disabled I don't get the 'restart' screen anymore, however the system hangs on the 'bootup' screen. So I tried all the different boot-up options to see if I could get it to work. The only way I got anywhere was by booting into single-user mode which got me to the command prompt with the following error messages: (I used -x -v as the boot options) (you might have to widen your window to see the list properly)

Configuring kernel extensions for safe boot.

/etc/rc: line 232: 26 Illegal Instruction kextd -x

/etc/rc: line 233: 27 Illegal Instruction kextload/System/library/Extensions/AppleTPMACPI.kext/

/erc/rc: line 253: 28 Illegal Instruction /usr/libexec/FirewallTool

/etc/rc: line 256: 29 Illegal Instruction /usr/libexec/register_mach_bootstrap_servers /etc/mach_inet.d

/etc/rc: line 262: 30 Illegal Instruction launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons

/etc/rc: line 264: 31 Illegal Instruction /usr/sbin/update

Then it dumps me back at the command prompt. I've fscked the drive and it clears. I dunno what the problem might be. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!

-Don

Well the box I'm trying it on is one I built about 4 years ago, and here are its' specs:

Motherboard's an MSI MS-6380E (ViA Chipset)

Processor's an AMD Athlon XP Palomino

1.5 GB ram

IDE HD's

The only way I even get it to boot to the command prompt is if I fully disable USB in the bios. Would't that be a problem *if* I get the GUI running, since OSX doesn't support the PS/2 ports?

have you tried the latest patched JAS 10.4.8 dvd? that has the generic usb drivers installed which were required for my VIA chipset mobo to work. The other way to get around usb problems is to install a NEC chipset USB PCI card. Best i can help u with.

MAy sound like a stupid question but, have you installed the AMD patch during installation? best thing i can think of is your mobo is not compatible
