frankietabs
Hey guys. I think I might be done with my Hackintosh because I'm worried I might ruin my laptop. The fan comes on every couple of minutes to cool the system down. I've check the cpu temps (Intel Core 2 Duo,1gm ram) and its showing 72C on like 5% cpu usage. That's pretty hot to me. When I run XP it's running about 20C cooler and the fan hardly comes on. My question is do other people experience this on ther laptops and is there a way/hack to fix this. Thanks for your help. frankietabs
Thanks, I read it but I didn't see any information pertinent to CPUs running hot. al420
speedstep lets the cpu lower its frequency when not being used and raise it when the system comes under stress without speedstep throttling on macosx it will be running full throttle 100% of the time Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43112-hackintosh-running-hot/#findComment-308408 Share on other sites
Guest Ramm
His problem isn't the CPU usage percentage -- he stated at 5 percent it was at 75c, so changing the frequency isn't the problem. I really don't know the answer... just try to cut down on usage as much as possible. This = less power used = less heat & longer battery life. Otherwise at 5% load you have a CPU idling at full throttle. NP in a desktop, not so good in a laptop. frankietabs
Thanks guys. I will try the speedstep update. I will report back in a couple of days. frankietabs
Installed Speedstep. My temps are reading about 65C so about 10 degrees cooler. Would you say 65C is an average for Core 2 Duo. Just want to make sure that my laptop is sufficiently cooled where it should be. Thanks. munky
it sounds reasonable at least. my macbook pro gets a lot hotter. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43112-hackintosh-running-hot/#findComment-309486 Share on other sites
cyclonefr
Shouldn't harm in any way your laptop. 60°C is fine. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/43112-hackintosh-running-hot/#findComment-309533 Share on other sites
