blanktruth
I have just completed a native install into a partition on my laptop, but after completing the installation, system rebooted and the only thing I can see is an Apple logo. And it stops there... I would like to boot from the XP partition but I do not know how... Also what might be the reason of being frozen at that Apple logo screen? Thanks... mtoonsdale
You need to set your windows partition as "Active." This can be done with a variety of disc tools, and may even be possible through the Mac OS X install DVD. I personally use a bootable DVD version of Paragon Partition Manager which works very well. blanktruth
Thank you for your message. I have just found that Acer Travelmate 8215WLMi has its own Boot Selection Tool at the startup. I have selected to boot from the DVD because MacOS X crashes somewhere I don"t know. And then Darwin asks me to chose from which drive to boot. An I just selected the Windows XP partition and it worked. Now I am trying to find out what might be the reason of freezing at Apple Logo. Thanks.. joe75
Hold F8 on boot and you'll get boot prompt where you can choose your XP partition to boot. Leave the highlight on osx and type -v to see were mac is stopping at boot Edit your boot plist, add, Timeout20 and you wont have to push F8. Trolly
i know why ur screen is freezing when u install it, at custom install, don't choose anything else except the kernel either for amd or intel, not both, and only that, no other options like "suppport for the most common hardware" etc Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42722-what-happened-to-my-windows-xp/#findComment-305572 Share on other sites
blanktruth
Thank you for your replies, both of you. joe75: I have just taken a picture of the screen with -v and will post it as soon as I can connect my Camera to this computer. As far as I remember it freeze at somewhere like running the CPU 1 or something like that... Trolly: I am just doing what you have suggested as I have read in some other topics that might be the reason. Thank you... _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Ok I have just completed the installation and the result is the same. It freezes at; IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 0:23 Started CPU 01 any idea? _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ I realised that I forgot to install the system with cpus=1 but I pushed f8 and started the system with idlehalt=0 and found where it freezes, it says; FireWire (OHCI): start - unable to get device memory FireWire (OHCI): start - unable to get device memory and then it freezes... _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ Ok this time I started with idlehalt=0 -v -x by expecting maybe it would not start FireWire drivers and probably it worked' but still it freezes. You can see where it freeze from the attached file. panic(cpu 1 caller 0x001A3129): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 1, Type 14=page fault), ... I am not sure if this freezing is a result of the installation without cpus=1 Thank you... _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ I am going to open a new topic for this specific problem. I will post the link here if I receive any reply... Thank you...
