joelones
Hey Guys, What just wondering how many people are using the firewire solo on their machines. At times I notice static like popping sounds and the audio can get very much distorted when playing back mp3s and the like. Its odd, it doesn't happen all the time, just randomly it exhibits this behavior. Using the most recent driver from m-audio's site (v1.8.1-3) and using tubgirl's mac os x. I use the firewire solo exclusively for both sound output and input. Any suggestions? helly
Hey Joel, I too had this problem when using the solo on my PC. In Logic I would have to re launch the audio driver or reset the solo unit itself via the the control panel to get it back to normal operation. I think that it is a frimware problem as I hae used it on a number of PC's with different setups and had the same problem. I have now swithed to Mac and have new Mac Pro. When I downloaded and installed the lastest Solo driver for Mac OSX it came up with a message asking if I wanted to upgrade the firmware version, which I did. I haven't had a problem since. So I then took it and plugged it back inot my old PC, which is a fairly decent machine anyhow and can't get the same issue to arise. I don't know if there is a firmware update avaialble on the Maudio site or not as a seperate download. The PC driver I last installed only a few weeks back didn't include it. So it may be an idea to try plugging it into a Mac if you know someone who has one and downloading the latest driver so you can flash the firmware. My Solo shows Firmware ver.2005.09.05 and river version 1.8.1-3 I bought my solo just after this date so it may have shipped withoutthe upgrade, I'm not sure. Hope that helps. striggell
yeah no problems with mine either (using JAS 10.4.8 SSE3) I'm using the latest driver from M Audio and it also upgraded the firmware first time I connected the device (same build as Helly) I've seen this problem come up on a few different forums and the firmware upgrade seems to be the fix.
