I've dabbled around with OSX for the past year on a few platforms...notably a PentiumD 820/Intel 945PSN board (with ATI vid card) with success. However, I am wanting something as close as possible (hardware wise) to a Mac that I can get...and I want the full blown Mac graphics experience (can never get the ATI card to do it...and I could not on my Thinkpad either) So, I bought a few pieces (a Core 2 Duo 6400 processor, hard drive, ram) and now am looking for a board for my pieces. I want an Intel board...and want to use all the built in hardware (video, sound, network). No need for overclocking here...just want to build something that resembled the Apple development rigs (Intel everything, integrated everything, etc) I've searched the boards, and I have not found a definitive answer as to which current Intel board best fits the bill, as far as everything working perfectly. I have 10.4.3, .5, .7 and .8 builds to work with as well. After all this...which Intel board will best fit my needs? I've read the pros and cons of the 945, 965 and 975 chipsets...but not sure which direction to go with. Thanks all...... z3rr0 Posted February 17, 2007 Share Posted February 17, 2007 I just built the following system: • Intel Pentium D 3.2Ghz (Dual core) • 1GB PC2 4200 (DDR2 533Mhz) RAM • Intel GMA 950 Onboard Graphics • 160 GB SATA Hard Disk • 18X DVD+/-R Dual Layer DVD Burner • 802.11G Wireless • 10/100/1000Mbps Network • 6 USB 2 Ports • 1 available PCI express x16 • 1 available PCI express x1 • 1 available PCI • Dimensions: 15.8" x 7.0" x 14" The key to the answer is the ASUS P5LD2-VM 2.0. The *only* complaint I have is that there is only one usable (in OS X anyway) IDE port. Other than that *everything* works. GMA 950 based video, gigabit ethernet, a {censored}load of USB 2 ports, etc. Check it out here: http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&am...amp;modelmenu=1 The only problem I had was that I had to disable the sound in BIOS to get it to boot after install until I could install the updated audio driver. After that, I turned it on and it has been a dream. I can detail it all out if you need me to. It compares to a dual G5 2.0Ghz with Macbench and it was about $600. (its intel based.) it so nice ive built 2 computers based on it and im going to make alot more (as soon as newegg gets more in stock ) also if you pick one up the only thing that doesnt work is the red E-IDE port. you can find the complete how-to in my sig. I'll keep in mind the Asus board recommendation..but before I make the leap, I was looking for a Intel brand board...I should have made myself more clear in the original post.
