LCD Finally shuts off when Lid Closed on my Macbook Pro

One thing thats been driving me nuts is that when you close the lid on a macbook pro in windows vista (and XP also I think) the LCD stays on. I don't have my machine go to sleep but I do like to shut off the backlight when its not in use. Now all of the sudden it DOES shut off. Only thing I can gather is I just installed the latest ATI Graphics Drivers and the latest Intel Chipset inf drivers. One of them did it but I can't say which since I did them at the same time. Just figured I'd give you all a heads up in case this was bothering anyone else.

I spent a while trying to figure this out on my MBP 2CD too. Following the normal extract and manually install boot camp drivers instructions for Vista, this is what I discovered:

- There is an "unknown device" under the "Performance Counters" device in the "Other devices" section. If this is NOT disabled, the notebook usually locks up on sleep, with the keyboard backlight on. Disabling it removed this problem.

- Installing any of the apple trackpad drivers caused the mouse not to work when waking up from sleep. So I decided to give up double-finger scrolling for now and let sleep work.

- To make the laptop not lock up on sleep, I had to go into the Sigma Tel control panel and ENABLE power management and DISALBE SPDIF out.

With those things done, I have the MBP sleeping and waking reliably.

Well I never had any issues with lockups and I knew about the mouse issue. This was just the LCD not turning off when the lid was closed. Every other laptop does this but until now my Macbook didn't.

What intel drivers did you use or dowload?

These...

They work with all versions of windows. Dunno if they are what fixed the LCD on/off switch though.
