If you have a DELL Inspiron 5150 and want to install OS X, we did all the work for you! so print these instructions and have fun!

INSTRUCTIONS:

1- Boot from JaS 10.4.8 DVD. (ppf'd Defiant fix is the one I used)

2- Choose Disk Utility and create a partition for Mac OS X

3- Install Intel options only.

4- Get the zip file below it contains the Graphics Card fix and Ethernet fix (put them on a cd or a USB key!)

5- Drag both kext files to your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder (I know it's not easy but get it done!)

6- Open Applications/Utilities/Terminal and type:

sudo su (to get root, the password is nothing <enter>)

when you get the # prompt type:

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/NVidiaEFI.kext <enter>

chmod 755 /System/Library/Extensions/NVidiaEFI.kext <enter>

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext <enter>

chmod 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext <enter>

diskutil repairPermissions / <enter>

shutdown -r now <enter>

7- When OS X comes back you now have ethernet running and full QE/CI Video.

Please use the IRC channel for help in getting it going, we cannot help you by private messages, we get too many!

PS: we need help in getting S-Video and external monitor running (not to mention pcmcia) help out if you can ! Thanks

;)Thanks to JaS , lnxg5 and everyone else who helped us get it running! :thumbsup_anim:

First let me say thank you for giving a computer specific level instruction on installation. I have an Inspiron 5150 and I did a complete raw install...namely, I deleted all partitions and attempted to install 10.4.9. Maybe that was my mistake.

After a lot of hit and misses, I got the partition correctly and got it to boot after install....to a flubbed screen and then blank.

Did I miss something? Was I supposed to copy all the files BEFORE a reboot? I ask that because the video DOES seem to be the problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jon
