NinoD
Hi all, so I used the medevil kext to enable my sata drives in OSX and they work fine.......however I have noticed that if the Sata drives are not used, they seem to deactivate.....or go into sleep and then power up (with the noise of the drives clicking once and spinning up) when I click on the drive to access it and it takes a few seconds to load. Is this normal or would this be damaging my drives and is it safer for me to eject them when not in use? thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/42144-hard-drives-sata-click-off-and-click-on-in-osx/ Share on other sites
DarkLordofIT
NinoD Both Vista and OSX have energy saving features that put the harddrives to sleep when not in use. I have noticed that in MacOSX it is quite a bit louder. The drives click when going to sleep and click even louder when waking up. I have not seen any evidence of physical damage from this phenomenon but I do have my system freeze occasionally. I can fix this by disabling Harddrive sleep mode entirely. Under the System Preferences > Energy Saver you can UNcheck the box that says to put the HDs to sleep whenever possible.
