Hi, I've been looking through the forum for answers to this but to no avail. I upgraded my hackintosh 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 and pretty much fixed everything except now Final Cut won't load anymore! It all worked fine and dandy in 10.4.7, but now after it starts to boot up i click "continue" after it asks about a firewire thing and the program just closes! I checked the other programs, i.e. motion, soundtrack, etc. But only Final Cut and Compressor won't load! I'm using it on my Inspiron 1505 with an intel945 gpu...i upgraded it cause now i have sound out my 9200, but now that i can't use final cut its pretty much useless. I used the Jas 10.4.8 upgrade with semthex 8.8.1 kernel. Someone help please! or i'll just go back to 10.4.7 and deal with having no sound = \

Cool!! The mifki kernel worked!! The daemonES kernel gave me issues too...but once i installed the mifki kernel...final cut boots up again!! Now i got a 95% working mac on my dell 1505!! dual cores still and will probably always be an issue = \

Kay actually...here's an update on my status...so Final Cut does work...but once i install Motion...it screws up again...If i just install Final Cut and nothing else...it works fine and dandy...which kinna sucks cause i wanted motion too = \...i opened up the console to see what's going on...and it has some termination aecore::Cexception thing...Motion works fine however, but I'm just curious about what's conflicting?? Anyone have any ideas??

OMG!! I think i've done it!! Everything works now!! Though i haven't updated it cause i'm afraid it might screw up again and i'm tired of reinstalling EVERYTHING...so here's what i did!

1) Did a clean install of Mac OS X with the Jas 10.4.6 disk

2) Updated it to 10.4.7 with a pkg i found on demonoid i think??

3) Installed Final Cut Studio (everything, i.e. Motion, Compressor, Soundtrack, etc.)

4) Followed these instructions to update my OS:

5) Restarted my comp

I tested everything and they all work!! Hope this helps anybody else that might have had a similar problem. Again, i haven't tested updating the software because i'm pretty much tired and this is my billionth time reinstalling everything...

I'm having the same problem. I thought I installed the mifki kernel correctly (copying it from the Jas 10.4.8 CD to the desktop, then using teminal to copy it to /mach_kernel, then repaired permissions), but FCP and compressor still won't open.

What did I do wrong?

Did you do a clean install?? Cause i don't think you can fix it after its broken. I upgraded it from 10.4.7 and I upgraded 10.4.7 from 4.6...then i followed the instructions to upgrade to 10.4.8...maybe you could also try downloading the mifki kernel from one of the forums...just search for it...

Update: If anybody still reads this I found another possible solution. Before installing anything, I used pacifist to take out the prokit.framework from the jas 10.4.6 dvd and replaced the one on the jas 10.4.8 installation. Now everything seems to work fine. I did this on my friends laptop.
