joren Posted February 10, 2007 Share Posted February 10, 2007 When I boot off the DVD and try to start the installation, it hangs while still in text mode. The last lines are: Got boot device: <blah blah blah my DVD drive> BSD root: diskxsx, major x, minor x After the "BSD root" line it just shows the flashing cursor and hangs. I managed to load the installer in VMware and install to the drive (PATA IDE), but now if I try and boot from the drive, it hangs at the same point. At "Got boot device" it lists the HDD instead of the DVD drive, and on the "BSD root" line the values for "x" are different. OnO Posted February 11, 2007 Share Posted February 11, 2007 Got the same problem. I have the same mainboard and the processor. I was using Tubgirl image with nForce SATA patch. Once I managed to go trough BSD Root into graphics mode using combination of -f -x boot flags, however it was taking simply ages like 5-10minutes to see spinning cursor. I just couldn't wait so long. OnO Posted February 20, 2007 Share Posted February 20, 2007 I did it ! The problem was USB Legacy Support which has to be disabled on nForce4 AMD boards prior installing Mac OS X. Now everything works like a charm. riktor Posted March 1, 2007 Share Posted March 1, 2007 My install was working perfectly, I had to always boot in verbose mode though. Now im stuck with this same error, I also noticed when this error started OS X did -f and re cached all of the kext files, then the error began. using -f -x I can boot into safe mode but from there the system is really horribly slugish and im not sure how to fix any of it. I am able to get a little further by typing "rd= rdisk01" but then it just goes to a kernel panic. I have tried typing the -x -f -v commands with it, but it didn't get me any further. riktor Posted March 1, 2007 Share Posted March 1, 2007 Well the BSD Root: thing isnt an error its just telling us where it finds OSX, from there its supposed to do something. I find this odd that this started for me after OS X did kextcache at startup without me doing -f. If you cant get into safe boot you could try repairing permissions with your DVD as well as checking disc for errors. So for the sake of developers lets try to narrow down the cause of the issue, we all have nForce boards correct? Also has anyone used the latest Smethex kernel? aldrlandon93 Posted March 1, 2007 Share Posted March 1, 2007 Yeah, I have the latest kernel and the JaS 10.4.8 with the PPv1 patches, defiant diskutil, and the ich7 patches on the cd (didn't install obviously). I have reinstalled multiple times and tried repairing the hard drive permissions on those, but usually it doesn't find any errors and doesn't do anything for me. Yes, I am on an Nforce 4 board (Asus A8N5X). I have tried booting with the -f and -x and -v, but what happens now is it hangs at in6_ifattach_loopback and then goes to still waiting for root device. riktor Posted March 3, 2007 Share Posted March 3, 2007 (edited) No kernel panic and we actually didnt get the waiting for root device error, as a matter of fact we dont get an error we get the root device location and then just a blinking cursor. As far as the error, check your hard drive jumpers, make sure you have set everything to its proper setting slave/master as well connected the cable correctly(no Cable select). Blue end in the board, middle in slave, last in master. OS X is picky with anything else. I think it is my hardware and I am due for an upgrade, so I'm getting a core 2 duo e6300, gigabyte ds3 ich8 mobo, and a gig of Ram, all of which seem to be compatible. crazyJAT Posted February 22, 2011 Share Posted February 22, 2011 I know this is an old thread, but I am having the same issue with Snow Leopard. I have a K8V SE Deluxe motherboard with a VIA chipset. I installed from a retail 10.6.0 install DVD using the Nawcom Mod CD 0.3.1. I can boot from the CD and then install Snow Leopard 10.6.0. The mod CD installed the ATA kext and the 10.0.0 legacy kernel so that I should be able to boot from the hard drive. The legacy kernel does not boot, however. I did find a kernel that does boot, but it gets stuck at: BSD root: disk0s1, major 14, minor 1 I tried turning off Legacy USB Support and I got one step further. Now it gets stuck at the next line: USBMSC Identifier (non-unique): 00000000000000000000W 0x13fd 0x1040 0x106 Anyone have any ideas how I can boot my system?
