Sony Vaio V505EX - Works Perfectly!

Hello guys.

I own a Vaio V505EX, with

1.5 Ghz Intel M (centrino), 60 G hard drive, Radeon Mobility 9200, Intell 2200bg, Yamaha sound board, and panasonic DVD/CD-R/RW.

( SSE 2 Processor )

I installed MacOS from the generic DVD onto a 14 gig partition, and on first boot, almost everything worked.

Sound card did not work until I followed the sound guide for Intel ac97 PCM audio found on this site.

LIST OF THINGS THAT DOES WORK.

1. The video card works with the VESA 2.0 driver, running the laptop panel at 1024X768X32@60.

( my screen only supports that resolution so its okay)

2. DVD / CD-R/RW drive works perfectly. I'm able to read disks (mac and pc) and burn discs.

3. USB ports. All Usb ports seem to be working. Anything I plugged in worked so far.

4. Firewire or the s400 as sony calls it also works

5. Sony Memory stick - Its detected but I dont know if it works, since I dont own a memory stick.

6. Built in Intel ethernet ( 10/100 VE pro) works.

7. Touch pad works. but I cant tap.

8. PCMCIA Slot works. I used my CF card reader and it works fine.

9. VGA out works fine. but since my card is only VESA 2.0 the refresh rate is stuck on 60hz.

WHAT DOES NOT WORK

1. Intel 2200BG ( for now...maybe mr. tuxx will figure this out )

2. Fn keys ( stupid Sony, only works in windows or in linux with SonyPI )

3. Power management...gone out the window.

4. Built-in Modem - But who cares

OVERALL

I like the speed of Tiger, the graphics are okay but no QE or any of that jazz.

I can see myself using Mac OS as my main OS if i can get QE, power management, and Wireless.

But for now, Its a neat little toy. If anyone has a V505 and wants to install mac os GO ahead it will work nice.

I'll attach my X bench results too.

OH. Heres a neat trick. If you want to lower the brightness of the screen, boot into Windows lower the brightness and reboot. The computer will be stuck in that level of brightness.

  • 2 years later...

Hello!

Where do I get this generic DVD? I want to try to install on my v505, if you can lead me to installation guide, I would really appreciate!

I saw the result of xbench, it seems very slow...

I once installed tiger on my v505 almost 2 years ago, at that time, the fan was running at highest speed constantly, and things were very slow,,, with battery running out instantly...

What is your impresssion of your macos v505 compared to when u were using winXP?

Thanks! ;)

Jin
