Hi Everyone,

1) I tried installing JaS 10.4.8 today for my first attempt at an install. Everything went smoothly, and with all the work happening on here I was able to get sound (Sigmatel 9200), Ethernet (Broadcom 440) and everything except wireless (Intel 3495) working. Thank you ALL for the clear and awesome posts. Since there isn't one yet, I'll post a quick walkthrough for this laptop soon. I have a Dell 640m (E1404) with the following specs:

T2300 Core Duo processor (1.66GHz)

1G DDR2-533 Ram

80gig 5400RPM SATA HD

Intel 950GMA chipset

Broadcom 440x ethernet

Intel 3495A/B/G wireless (not working)

Sigmatel 9200x audio

NEC DL DVD-burner (supported directly)

2) Even though my video card seems to work fine (including with 2 displays and full resolution - even the system profiler says all is well), I get an error message each boot about not being able to use /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel915i or something. Any particular reason this would be happening?

3) I've been reading people's performance on here with respect to Xbench. I tried running it and got a measly 58 as a final score, when people on here seem to get between 80-100. Any reason this would be happening? Am I really losing serious performance?

Thanks in advance, everyone! I already love having OSX running on my Dell (and LOVE the fact that the mouse acceleration curves are "normal" - ala Windows/Linux). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Analog

Update: I installed the DaemonES kernel and I now have the following:

- Sleep mode still doesn't work

- My Xbench score went up to 80 with the DaemonES kernel

- I have a working SigmaTel 9200x HD audio card with the kernel dump method (thanks, Taruga)

- Display with multiple monitor support, proper resolution, CI/QT/QE2D/etc. working.

- I get a boot error about not being able to load /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel915.kext. Intel950GMA is loaded, however. Should I just remove the AppleIntel915.kext from the directory to solve this?

- I have a shared ntfs drive with read/write working just fine

- The only problem I have is with the well documented Intel 3495A/B/G card. Looking into picking up a Dell 1390 to solve this

Thanks everyone! Everything is working great!

Update for 640m users out there:

- I noticed that Beamsync was already disabled and QE2D enabled when I played with the DaemonES kernel. I'm not sure if I already had these settings set with the Semthex kernel, so I will revert to Semthex and let you know the XBench speed with BS Disabled and QE2D enabled.

Question for you all as well: What is BS supposed to do? From the name, I'd assume it auto-senses V/H-scan frequencies for CRT monitors? If so, I think I ran multiple monitor support with a couple of CRTs as both "mirrored" and "non-mirrored" options flawlessly with BS disabled. Is there really a point to leaving this enabled?

Thanks!

- On a side note: Flawless performance on OSX with Pro Tools and a Hercules USB DJ Console MK2 as a controller  Great sound from it, and beautiful audio control!
