I have got the M2010 installed with the 10.4.8, the only way to get it installed was by a Bios update to the A04 bios disable speedstep and dual core 2, multiprocessor support.

Unfortunately I have yet to get the laptop display working. networking, sound works via E1705 laptop thread and hints,

will keep you posted when I get it all working hopefully in the next few weeks or sonner. My setup is a vista dual boot which complicates a few things aswell.

1. Video, after spending countless hours on this {censored} I finally have given up on high resolution 1680x1050 I get backlight with natit and titan various combos. tried ATI inject various combos nothing works. I have stuck with the original X1000 drivers made a while back included in the Jas 10.4.8 install reseed install disk and they work with CI/CE at 1024x768

here is a link to the post I made in the Natit forum for your EDID.

2. Networking, Basically the dell uses Broadcomm NetExtreme my device Id is 16F7 to get it working hack the working broadcomm driver listed as 57XX in the Genius Bar- tutorials and add your device id then hack your rc to boot up with your original mac addy.

3. Wireless.. working on it.

4. Sounds Sigmatel 922X works out of the box nothing special, speakers dont work but who cares in linux I cant even get the speakers to work.

Basically you have a 1/2 decent system here I have a triple boot, vista, linux , Osx I recommend easyBCD ( see google) as a bootloader for the triple boot.

I dont expect to report or answer any questions so good luck and this is by no means a guide just some pointers.

I added In this approach Marcelo Correa instructions for Ethernet and a modified Hexedited AppleBCM5751Ethernet_modified.kext.zip to try out for yourself.

============================

Using 10.4.5 (Broadcom BCM5752) dev id: 1600 Vendor Id:14e4

save the file /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext in the desktop

(in the desktop copy) right click and "show contents"

find the Contents/PlugIns/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext

right click and "show contents"

you going to find a file named AppleBCM5701Ethernet (you are going to use the hexeditor on it) drop it in the desktop!!

you could download an hex editor in

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10658

or

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/deve...tools/0xed.html

in the hexeditor go to Find "66 81 FA 59 16" and replace all matches with "66 81 FA 00 16"

ps. my deviceId is 16 00, took time to understand the changing

scroll down to line 37550 and change.....

change address 37554, 37555 of "75 71" to "EB 71"

save and close the file....

than inside the AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext you going to find the file named "Info.plist" open it and replace the entry <string>pci14E4,1659</string> with <string>pci14E4,1600</string> and save the file.

Put back the AppleBCM5701Ethernet inside the AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext (same place).

drop the modified IONetworkingFamily.kext in the original location (should need root password)

then run the commands

sudo -s

cd /System/Library/Extensions/

ln -s IONetworkingFamily.kext com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily.kext

rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache

rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

shutdown -r now

then you will reboot.....

once booted, you need to setup the network

# setup the mac address (see it in windows "ïpconfig /all")

sudo ifconfig en0 ether 00:13:72:18:XX:YY

# start options

sudo ipconfig set en0 DHCP

by now you should ping your default gateway....

And that's all folks

regards

Marcelo Correa

here is a Networking family from the latest apple update + modifications for broadcomm 57XX device 16f7

AppleBCM5751Ethernet_modified.kext.zip

IONetworkingFamily.kext_modifiedforDeviceID_16f7.zip

okay Found a way to get higher resolution, basically you need to do all the EDID stuff +

Add your device ID to Ati radion x 1000. kext then use the <key>Graphics Mode bla bla

with your value of 1680x1050x32 this seems work most of the time sometimes it drops down to 1400x1050x32 but regardless its sure is better then 1024x768

there is minor mouse tearing but nothing too bad.

okay solved mouse tearing and artifacts stuck to 1400x1050 resolution stable used ATI inject, got rid of all entries and added EDID this is a working config.. I am retiring this thread.

Pretty happy with my Dell M2010 with a 20.1inch Monster screen :)

added final atiinject already patched btw nothing else works dont even bother trying, natit or titan you will just be spending endless hours watching your display flicker on and off or get white screen or maybe have the back light on and stare at you in the dark .

The intell wireless kinda works the driver is based off of what other people hav done with the intel 2200, frankly I dont really care since I mainly use ethernet.

here is a Networking family from the latest apple update + modifications for broadcomm 57XX device 16f7

Since my NIC's devid is 0x16F7, i would

a ) save your BOTH of your modified attached kext files to /System/Library/Extensions

b ) i don't need hexedit the your attached AppleBCM57xxx file

c ) take care of the cache, disk perms and reboot

??

Thanks

Havnt bothered with this for a year but I will update some files here to finish this thread.

Included are Drivers for Wireless, ATI video, BIOS, Sound and others Only for M2010 these were all put to gether in Feb 2007 I just never had time to put them all here, the wireless is a hack in progress, internal net card and all else works well.

Vista, OSX Dual booting Solution on M2010

===============

To add I am dual booting in Vista, there are two ways to dual boot, forget all these guides they dont tell you what you really need to know which is

Point 1) Install Vista then OSX

Now what OsX does after install is it will mark itself ( its partition as hidden) and give itself an Activite First boot State after install, this will stop your Vista from booting so read point 2.

Point 2) You can Do one of two things you can boot from vista using chain0 loader approach or you can boot from OSX boot loader by hitting F8 when you see the Mac logo and replacing your boot plist with the one I provided.

Now here is simply your choices if you want Vista booting first then to go into OSX you need to get a partition program and mark your vista as the primary boot partition then Active ( since it was marked inactive after osx installed). Then use your Vista install DVD to repair your Vista install then add MAC osx to your Vista Boot menu by using bcdedit.

By doing the following:

Type this: bcdedit /copy {current} /d "Mac OS X"

Type this: bcdedit /enum active

Type this: bcdedit /set {place Key generated above here} PATH \chain0

Thats all for this method and make sure to copy chain0 to c:\ or your root windows path.

If you want OSX boot loader doing everything then do this:

1. Mark your vista as active and OSX as inactive using partition program

2. REPAIR partition boot sector using Vista Install DVD

3. Use parition program to set vista as inactive and but visible in partion program and set your OSX as Hidden and Active in partition program.

You should now boot from OSX and get the Apple boot, now press F8 then -s and replace the com.Boot.... with the one I provided, once thats done you will be able to use the OSX boot menu to run Vista and you will not get a corruption state even if you are using a BIOS emulation to run VISTA.

Either way it works well.

All these fancy Bios MBR loaders and 3rd party apps are BAD news!!!! on the DELL DO NOT use them on this hardware.

Good luck, please do not expect responces in PMS I am not online that much anymore.
