I've got the 10.4.6 Jas DVD. After having a go with VMWare, where it worked flawlessley, I want to now dual boot OSx86 with Windows XP. Now I have around 7GB of unpartitoned space at the end of my 40GB HDD. My present disc structure is as such

{ 11GB } <--> { <10GB> <10GB> <unpartitioned> }

Primary Partitoin Extended Partiton

I had initally planned to install OSx86 in the unpartioned space. But a scan through Partition Magic in XP tells me that the unpartitioned space will be unbootable as it is outside the 1024 cylinder range. Is that so? If yes, how should I partition my disk so that I can dual boot the system?

Cheers

Aditya

OS X can not reside in an extended partition. If it is in a primary partition, it does not matter where it is located on the disc. However, just making sure you know, you'll have to have some sort of a boot selector for dual booting.

Thanks for posting this post Aditya!

I am also confused with the same problem.

My partition details is as in the image:

partitiondatalp9.th.jpg

I am using Partition magic.

I have installed Win XP on C: drive & Win ME on D:

I want to install MAC OS on some other drive (F:(currently not primary & not active) is preferred)

Q1: Shall i make F: drive primary from partition magic?

Q2: Can u give me a link to a dual boot tutorial that would relate to my situation as i have

seen a lot of them, so it gets confusing again.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Sam

If you want to boot OSX native you have to place it on one of the first four partitions, the partition must be primary and there must be no extended partitions infront of it eg

primary-primary-primary-primary_osx is fine

but

primary-extended-primary_osx will not allow osx to boot
